December 21
"Why did we leave the tree this late?" Chester asks Grace, watching her place the last ornament on their Christmas tree. Grace sighs, sitting back on her heels and looking at Chester.
"Not too sure." She replies with a small laugh. Their front door opens, with Mamrie stepping through and Grace and Chester's daughter Lyla balanced on Mamrie's hip.
"Knock knock!" Mamrie calls, setting Lyla down. Lyla bounds over to her mother, jumping into Grace's lap.
"Mommy!" The little girl squeals. Grace smiles widely, hugging her daughter tightly and pressing a kiss to the girls wild curls.
"Hello peanut. How was your day with Auntie Mamrie?" Grace asks Lyla.
"Good!" Lyla exclaims happily. Grace glances to Mamrie, who gives her a reassuring smile. "Mamie put Beanz in a Santa hat!" Grace giggles at her daughter's pronunciation of Mamrie's name.
"She's close, not quite there yet." Mamrie remarks. "And for the record I put a Santa hat Beanz size on her head I did not put my dog inside a Santa hat." Chester and Grace laugh loudly at that.
"Thank you for spending the day with her so we could get the tree done." Chester says sincerely.
"It was no problem, she was an angel, as always!" Mamrie responds. "I should get going, Hannah and Ingrid have need of my mad babysitting skills with Jonny. Bye guys!"
"Bye Mame!" Grace calls.
"Goodbye Mamie!" Lyla calls, waving her small little hand. Mamrie smiles at the little girl, waving goodbye.
"Lyla, do you want to put the star on the top of the tree?" Chester asks his daughter. Lyla nods happily. "Alright then!" Chester scoops Lyla up, handing her the star and standing so she can place the tree topper on. Grace, smiling widely, snaps a photo.
@gracehelbig: cute humans do christmas things (we left the tree very late #judgement)
December 22
"Mommy, mommy, come look at Goosie!" Lyla shouts happily from the living room. Grace rushes away from the dinner she's attempting to make, knowing it'll be quicker to look at whatever Lyla wants her to look at than to try and reason she needs a minute to finish dinner.
Grace comes into the living room to see Goose wearing a scarf of garland and tinsel sitting on her head. Goose, crazy and untameable Goose, letting the four year old girl pile tinsel on her head. Goose had always had a soft spot for Lyla and the pair had been best friends since day one. Only Lyla can get away with this kind of thing with Goose.
"She looks very festive honey." Grace says with a chuckle. Lyla smiles as she puts tinsel on her own head. Grace laughs. "Sit by Goose and I'll take a picture of you two." Lyla sits down by her dog, giggling madly. Grace takes the picture.
@gracehelbig: @chestersee this is what happens when you're at the studio recording. obviously, you're missing all the fun
December 23
"What color frosting do you want to make peanut?" Chester asks his daughter. She ponders a minute, her deep brown eyes wide.
"Pink and red and green." Lyla answers with confidence. Chester smiles and gets the food coloring. He helps her mix the frosting and hands her a cookie to decorate. She smears pink frosting on the gingerbread man and green over that. Chester chuckles, happy to see his little girl happy. He gets a text from Grace and makes sure Lyla is still occupied with the cookie decorating before checking the message.
Grace: hey babe, how's the decorating going?
Chester: good! Lyla is making a very very cute green and pink gingerbread man
Grace: glad she's enjoying herself! I'll be back from Hannah and Ingrid's soon, I miss you two :(
Chester: we miss you too Gracie <3 see you soon
In an attempt to include Grace in the cookie making Chester takes a picture of Lyla to tag Grace in.
@chestersee: @gracehelbig obvious serious decorating business happening #newFoodNetworkstar
December 24
"Which cookies do you want to leave out for Santa?" Grace asks Lyla. Lyla scrunches her nose up, thinking.
"The gingerbread man and the candy cane and the angel." Lyla says decidedly, pointing to each cookie as she names it.
"Okay peanut, we'll leave those with some milk for when Santa comes." Grace agrees, setting the three cookies on a plate.
"I wanna pour the milk!" Lyla exclaims. Grace raises her eyebrows at the girl before hoisting her up onto the counter.
"Alright then, be careful with the heavy jug." Grace instructs. Lyla begins to tilt the milk, barely getting it in the glass. Grace waits in anticipation of the spill that's bound to happen, but it doesn't. Sure a little milk sloshes over the side but in comparison to Grace's thoughts of Lyla dropping the whole jug, not too bad. "You carry the cookies and I'll get the milk sweetheart." Grace tells her daughter. Lyla nods and holds the plate carefully.
"There, Santa will find the cookies here!" Lyla says, plopping the dish down on the coffee table.
"Do you want to write Santa a little note, telling him the cookies are for him?" Grace asks. Lyla nods excitedly. Grace hands her a marker and paper and Lyla begins scrawling out a message. Grace, finally understanding what Louise means when she says "my mummy heart will burst", snaps another photo.
@gracehelbig: my little joy
December 25
"Mommy, daddy, it's Christmas!" Lyla yells excitedly, bouncing up and down on her parents bed. Grace rubs her bleary eyes and sits up.
"Yes baby it is Christmas." Grace says with a tired smile.
"Do you think Santa's come?" Chester asks Lyla with a mischevious grin. Lyla bounds out of the bedroom to check the Christmas tree. Grace shifts tiredly into Chester's open arms.
"Merry Christmas my love." Chester whispers, kissing Grace lightly. Grace smiles.
"Merry Christmas." She replies. "Christmas takes on a whole new meaning when you have a little one, but it's good. I love seeing her so happy." Lyla runs back into the room then, informing them Santa brought everyone, even Goose, presents.
"I do too." Chester answers Grace's statement before scooping Lyla up and taking her back out to the living room. Grace follows quickly. She sits cross legged in the ground with Lyla, helping the little girl open gifts. Lyla's opened a few gifts when she takes one of Grace's and hands it to her mother.
"Your turn mommy." Lyla says firmly. Grace is surprised, knowing Chester was up to her receiving presents from "Santa." Grace smiles, rolling her eyes a little with a sideways glance to Chester. She has Lyla help her open the present.
As the two sit side by side, both intent on the present, Chester studies them. They do look very similar. Yes Lyla inherited her father's hair color but she did get her mother's curls, and her mother's eyes. Facially, she looks almost exactly the same as Grace. Chester smiles at his girls, taking a photo to capture the moment.
@chestersee: merry christmas from the helbig-see family.
