{ a/n- I haven't written a one shot where they've had a kid since The Accident-oops. I thought I'd get back in the swing of things. This is an adorable mental image I've and for a while. Please enjoy }
Grace's POV
I sit at the kitchen table, at 7 o'clock in the morning, sipping coffee, when Elise comes shuffling into the kitchen. Her wild, dark, messy curls spill over her shoulders and her wide, chocolately brown eyes tired. This isn't normal for her. She usually comes hurling her six year old self into the kitchen every morning, a ball of energy that I'll never understand how she's attained this early.
"Are you okay sweetie?" I ask her, going and kneeling in front of her.
Elise shakes her head and answers, "No, I don't feel good mommy."
"What doesn't feel good, El?" I question.
"My tummy hurts." She replies, her eyes welling up with tears. The sight about breaks my heart. I pull Elise into a hug, and she clings to me. When she pulls away, I rest my hand on her forehead. She's burning hot. I scoop her up, letting her rest on my hip like she hasn't done since she was four.
"Chester!" I call. "Where's the first aid kit, I need the thermometer!"
"It's in the hall cabinet," Chester answers, coming into the kitchen. "why?"
"I think El has a fever." I tell him, watching his gaze fall on his daughter in my arms.
Chester just nods, going to the cabinet and grabbing the kit. He pulls the thermometer out and coaxes Elise to hold it under her tongue. A few minutes later, we hear the thermometer beeping. I look anxiously, seeing her temperature is 101.
"I'll call the school, tell them she's not coming in today." Chester says.
"But I have to take an addition test." Elise begins to protest. She's like me in that respect, always worrying about what she won't get done when missing a days work.
"Honey," Chester murmurs softly. "you can make it up when you're feeling better okay." Elise just nods, closing her eyes and nuzzling her face into the fabric of my shirt. "I can ask Andrew for the day off from the studio-"
"No, you don't have to, Ches." I stop him. "I can stay with her. Mamrie can film a YDAD without me. Hannah is going to be there anyways."
Chester seems like he's going to protest, but he doesn't. He simply nods, kissing Elise's forehead and my cheek before going to grab his laptop bag and keys from the counter.
"I'll call and check in when I get the chance, okay?" Chester remarks.
"Okay." I agree.

A little while later, and I've managed to get Elise to eat some oatmeal and drink a glass of apple juice. I've always convinced her to take a dose of kids ibuprofen, which she hates. We're on the couch, under a blanket, and El has fallen asleep in my arms. I smile at her small form leaning against me, warm and comforting. I quietly take my phone out and text Mamrie, letting her know I won't be there today.
'Hey Mames, I can't make it to help you film today. Elise has a fever and I thought I should stay home with her. Sorry <3'
A few minutes later Mamrie responds.
'Aw, I hope the little peanut feels better soon! Don't sorry about Hannah and I, we'll be careful as always. Love you guys'
"Mommy?" Elise whispers, looking up at me from my lap.
"What's wrong baby?" I ask.
"Nothing." Elise assures me. "My tummy doesn't hurt anymore."
"It doesn't?" I question with relief, hoping she'll feel better tomorrow.
"It doesn't." Elise replies, hugging me tightly.
"Good." I whisper, hugging her back and kissing her head.
