Next Year Will Be Even Better

Grace, surprisingly enough, has presents for Chester for Father's Day.

The first part was probably the cheesiest and dumbest thing she'd ever done, and she loved it. She had been scrolling through the depths of hell, aka tumblr, and seen a mention of using Goose's pawprint as a present. And so she did.

She forced that poor dog to dip it's paws in blue kids fingerprint and walk all over a huge poster board, which Goose proceeded to sit on afterwards and get her butt covered in paint. But still, it was a cute present for Chester. She took a sharpie and signed Goose's name on it and was satisfied, hiding it away until Father's Day.

But her other present, that took a lot more planning.

Grace and Chester had obviously talked of having kids before and though she wasn't repulsed but the idea as she once had been she wasn't exactly jumping to have a baby. Until now. It had started a couple months back when the topic of Father's Day came around while they were with Sarah and Hannah.

"I'm going to help Ollie get you a present, Han." Sarah joked. Hannah laughed at that, taking Sarah's hand.

"Well next year we'll probably have a real tiny person to celebrate with instead of our baby puppy." Grace had congratulated them but she had also noticed a change in demeanor on Chester's part.

"You okay babe?" She asked.

"Yeah yeah I'm fine." He answered distantly. And that's when Grace knew what was wrong. They did talk about it later, and he admitted to being a little sad to seeing all his friends having children and settling down and knowing he'd never get that. He assured her she's all he'd ever need but it was nice to think about having kids. So she decided to try and give at least one to him.

Grace stopped taking her birth control. She took a test a couple weeks after, and when it was positive, she was terrified. But underneath all that terror was a little spark of joy. She was going to be having a baby. She and Chester's baby. And so, she began planning a surprise way to tell him on Father's Day.

Grace purchased a gender neutral onesie with a little elephant on it (which was adorable; she really couldn't not buy it), a small set of blue and red pacifiers, and a small gray bunny plush toy. After her first sonogram (which she told Chester she was going to meeting when heading to it), she got an ultrasound picture to add to the present. Grace put all the small items collectively in a box, wrapped it with yellow paper and tied it with a white bow. It was ready.

On Father's Day, Grace sends Goose bounding into her and Chester's room at half eight to wake him up. He awakes with a start, laughing as the dog nibbles gently on his hands.

"Morning Goosie." He mumbles sleepily.

"She's telling you Happy Father's Day." Grace says with a chuckle. Chester laughs too, petting Goose as Grace sits on the unmade bed. He leans over and kisses her cheek.

"You look like you're hiding something." Chester accuses teasingly, noting her flushed cheeks. Grace looks down and shakes her head.

"I have a present for you, from Goose, if you'd like to open it." She mentions quietly.

"Uh okay." Chester says with a giggle. Grace pulls the poster board from under the bed and he lets out a real laugh then, seeing the paw prints and the mark where Goose had sat. "Oh my god this is hilarious and amazing, I love it!" He kisses Grace on the lips quickly.

"There's another present, and I think you'll like this one even more." Grace says, excitement pushing down her fear. She goes and gets the yellow packaged box and hands it to him. He's cautious opening it, taking the wrapping off slowly and opening the box's lid with care.

First he finds the plush bunny. "A stuffed animal? Is this for Goose?" He asks. Grace just shakes her head and motions for him to keep looking. Next he finds the onesie. And then the pacifiers. "Grace." He breathes out, not believing his eyes.

"There's one more thing, at the very bottom." She encourages. He picks up the small square photo, looking in awe and pride at the small baby shaped blob in the black grainy mess.

"Gracie, you're actually-" He begins, trailing off in wonderment. It all pieces together for him. The constant phone calls from Mamrie, the jokes about buckling down on parenting with Goose for practice from Hannah, the weird "shopping trips" Grace had taken and never told him where she was going. It all made sense.

"The baby's due in December." Grace tells him, her eyes sparkling with excitement and her voice gushing with joy. Chester hugs her tightly, kissing her temple. "Do you like your present?" Grace asks.

"Of course! I love it!" Chester says honestly. His eyes keep going from Grace's glowing face to her abdomen, where now that he looks close enough, there is a small and barely visible bump showing. Grace can see him looking, and lifts her shirt up.

"There's not much of a bump yet, which is kind of good for shooting, but soon it'll be getting bigger." Grace informs him.

Chester is in wonder at the small bump there already is. He rubs a hand over it gently. "This is the best Father's Day I could ever ask for." He tells Grace as she rolls her shirt back down, pulling her closer to him.

"Well when we've got a little baby, next year will be even better." Grace whispers, kissing him lightly.

A/N- I've decided to do the author's notes down here so there isn't spoilers, unless there's a trigger warning of course.

Also sorry for all the recent baby fluff, it's just been all I'm motivated to write. I do love writing it so I hope you enjoy reading it. <3
