Grace's POV

Being back in New York, even for a couple days, reminded me why I moved. I squeeze my eyes shut, trying to forget where I am. The subway always made me panic.

"Are you okay, babe?" Chester asks, looking over to me.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I lie.

We're already late to this business dinner, I'm not going to worry Chester anymore. I can see my knuckles go white as I grip the pole, jostling as we bump along the tracks. I can feel it, building up in my chest. I can't breathe, not properly. My heart is pounding, pounding so fast and so loud I can feel it in every inch of my body.

I try to take a deep breath, and a small shudder runs through my body. I feel like I'm going to vomit. The subway car suddenly feels too hot, even though I'm wearing only a sweatshirt and jeans. It feels like someone has lodged a knife in my chest, and I can't seem to get any air. My fingers are tingling, going numb. I squeeze my hands into fists, my nails digging into my palms.

I need to get out of this subway.

"Ches," I say quietly. "I'm going to get off at the next stop."

"What's wrong?" He asks immediately.

"I'm panicking and I can't stay on. You keep going, I'll get back to the apartment alright." I tell him, the words rushing out.

"No, I'll get off with you." He insists.

"But the business dinner," I begin.

"You're more important than any stupid dinner." Chester says.

The subway stops, and Chester takes my hand.

"Excuse me." He states, leading me past all the people and to the door.

We get off the subway, and I feel hot tears sliding down my face.

"I'm so sorry, Chester." I whisper, unable to look at him.

I feel his warm arms wrap around me, and his lips press a gentle kiss to my temple.

"Gracie, don't worry about me. You are always my first priority. I want to make sure you enjoy yourself while you're here." He murmurs in my ear.

He wipes the tears from my face and kisses me sweetly.

"Thank you." I say.

I'm glad that I had Chester's hand to hold.
