"Time's up!" The small red headed woman yelled at the desk in the back. "I'll go first." She walked up to the front of the room and cleared her throat.
"My poem is a haiku called 'School'.
School
Now what time is it?
Time for school. Are you ready?
I can't wait to teach!"
We applauded by snapping. Simple but sweet. "Anyone wanna go next? Anyone? How about you Samantha." My eyes widened, I gulped. "Me?"
"Yeah you. Come on up!" She still had that big smile on her face. She had such a bubbly personality. I slowly walked up to the front of the room where Ms. Bakersfield was standing. My legs felt like noodles. I looked around at the many faces staring at me. I cleared my throat and started.
"I haven't really found a name for my piece yet, but here it is.
I'm a girl. I believe in choice. That our outcomes in life depend on the choices that we make. Like our lives are stories and we are the authors. If something happened, it happened because of what you chose to do prior to that. And wether you regret it or not is your CHOICE."
My stomach fell to my knees when I ended. Then an abundance of snaps followed the ending of my piece. I looked up and saw Marcus smiling at me. I made my way back to my seat more confident than before.
"Great job." he whispered to me causing me to smirk and respond back.
"I try."
