Week 6 since the accident.
Adam was still stable, but still 'asleep'. Mrs. Smith would come visit him once a week, and I went back to school. Anyway, I kept visiting once every 2 weeks, like when he was awake.
Charlie and I had a few dates, and they were great. He was funny, smart, and incredibly cute. But when I got home, I would pick up my phone to call Adam and tell him how amazing this guy was, and then I realized, he was gone, but alive. It was torture.
Today was one of those days. I threw my phone through the room and sat on the floor beside my bed as tears softly fell down my cheeks, thinking. Just then, Serena came in.
"Hey Parker, how was..." She said opening my door seeing the state I was in. "Oh my god! Are you okay?"
"He won't answer the phone." I said.
"C'mon. I'm sure Charlie's phone just died." She said looking around the room for my phone. She sighed at the screen realizing who I was really talking about. "You're not talking about Charlie."
"He always answered the phone."
"He'll be okay Parker. He may take time, but I know he'll come back. In the meantime we have to be patient." She said rubbing my back.
"Oh my god! You sound like Adam's nurses. 'Be patient. Talk to him. I bet he's listening to you.' No he's not! He's barely breathing for god's sake!"
"Hey, I know it's hard, but it isn't easy for him either."
"I know that. It just..." I sighed. "I'm tired, can you...please?" I said pointing at the door.
"Fine." She said dragging her feet out the room. "But Parker."
"What?"
"You know the rest of the girls and I care about you, right?"
"Yeah, of course I know." I smiled. Think it was the first time in a long time I smiled when thinking about Adam.
"Ok. Good night."
"Good night."

The next morning there was something weird.
As normal, my alarm sounded at 7:00 am, I changed into my plaid shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers. But when I got out of the room, Laura was sitting on a chair behind the kitchen counter. She was talking actively to not-so-active-Serena.
"Laura?" I asked.
She turned around and hugged me smiling. "Hi Parker!"
"When did you come here?" I asked curiously.
"I thought your father called you. We all came here to visit. We know you have classes, so we'll just go to shopping or something. We just wanted to have dinner with you. Do you girls have any plans?"
"Uuuuh, No. Wait, what did you mean by "we all."?
"Parkeeeeeer!!" Riley came running to me. I hugged her and raised her in my arms.
"You know, Alex probably just forgot to call or text you." Laura said.
"No I didn't. I called and it went right into voicemail every time. I left like 6 messages." My dad said entering the room.
"It's really no problem. I like having you here. I'm sorry I was asleep when you got here. Look Riley, I have to go to class right now, but I promise we'll get you some Ice-cream when I return, ok?" I said putting her down again and grabbing my bag along with a cup of coffee. "Bye dad. Bye Laura. See you tonight."
As I walked through campus to my literature class, I checked my voice mail, and just as my dad had said, there were 5 voice messages.
"Hi Parker! Just wanted to tell you we wanted to go down there to visit you girls. Call if you're busy. Beep!"
Well, basically every message said the same thing. Each time a little more annoyed. But then I got to an old one.
"Hi Parker, its Adam. Sorry I'm late, just stuck in traffic. Is everything all right over there? I hope your dad's not freaking out. Oh, wait. Slow down dude! Shit, not now car! C'mon, sta-!" I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I ran to the closest restroom and threw up in the toilet. I just sat there wishing I never heard that message; wishing Adam's car was not from the Stone Age; wishing that car hadn't crash my best-friend's car with him in it.
After a few minutes, I took a deep breath, got up, washed my mouth, and went to class almost dragging my feet. As I opened the door to the room, not caring about interrupting the lesson, Ms. Edwards looked right at me and said, "Good that you could join us Ms. Miller. Care to apologize to the students who did come in time?" she told me.
"Sorry." I said slowly.
"That's better. Now, as I was saying, Lewis Carroll grew up in Dares..." She continued as if nothing had happened. But I drifted away. Lost in my thoughts, I determined myself to find out who he was. Who the crazy driver was and why did he crash into Adam's car. I thought, 'He may have a story. Wife, husband. I didn't even know if it was he/she. Family, something. At least it would become a person to me. Someone who made a mistake. I could ask what happened to him/her that day. I just wanted answers. I wanted to have the whole story.
