"I said I'm fine. This is ridiculous." Adam said as I pushed the wheel chair he was sitting on.
"Shut up. It's hospital's policy. We're almost there."
"C'mon, just let me walk!" He said standing up. I placed my hand on his shoulder and pushed him back down.
"Sit." We walked like 100 meters more and Danielle opened the door for us. Adam stoop up, and she took the chair back with her.
"So, first day out."
"Yeah, I missed it." He said. We walked slowly to my car and I got in the driver's seat. He closed the door and hold his breath.
"Ready?" I asked. I knew he was scared, and it was okay. He looked at me, thankful for our ability to kind of read each other's mind. "It'll be fine." I said grabbing his hand. His chocolate brown eyes stared into mine, then going down to my smile. It looked like he was hypnotized, which he soon got rid of shaking his head and looking forward.
"Yeah, let's go." I started the engine, a bit confused for what had just happened. We drove for a couple of minutes, "You belong with me" being the only sound. When the song ended, he turned off the radio and broke the silence between us. "Did you go out with anybody?" He shot at me. I laughed, playing not to know what he was referring to.
"Who could I possibly go out with?"
"Parker."
"I did. Charlie, but... it didn't work out." I told him, serious this time. I felt my body tense up.
"Do I have to break his nose?" He joked. I loved how he'd lighten up my mood every time he knew I was worried. I loved his sweet voice and how it calmed me down. I loved his beautiful messy brown hair, and how it covered up to his eyelids. I loved his laugh and childish behaviour, and how it made me smile every time.
I chuckled. "I love you so much." I glanced at him. I could notice his grin at the corner of his mouth.
"I love you too."
"Do you want me to bring Riley to your place later? I know she'd love to see you. She missed you so much."
"Of course. Wow." He said, suddenly surprised at some thought.
"What?"
"I just realized, how much she must've changed. I mean, it's been a year." I swallowed my lump and let him continue, afraid of what he might realize next. "Holly crap! I have a..."
"Yep."
"How? I? What? When..."
"Stop! Breathe." I shouted as he relaxed a bit. "I'll tell you what I know. Ask."
"What's its name?"
"Theo Smith Jones." I said.
"She gave him my..."
"Mmhmmh." I nodded. If my voice came out, it would break.
"I have a boy." He whispered smiling, but it soon disappeared to a concerned frown. "Does she...is she with someone else?"
"Adam." I sighed laying my left elbow on the window frame and my fore-head on my hand, keeping my eyes stuck on the road in front of me.
"Please."
"She met him the day Theo was born. He took her to the hospital, and stayed with her. They've been together for 7 months, but I'm not sure. I was talking slowly thinking every word I said, and how it may affect him.
"What's his name?"
"Owen, I think."
"Do you like him?"
"I don't know. I saw him only once. He seemed nice." I paused, hearing his heavy breathing. "You can be mad, you know that, right?"
"But I don't know with who I'm mad at! I mean, it's nobody's fault! I don't like her like that anymore, she can go out with whoever she wants to, and I was in a fucking coma!"
"Look, I can't possibly understand what you're feeling but what you can do is talk to her and meet Theo. I bet you will work something out. You know, he has your eyes." I said parking in front of his house.
"Really?"
"Yeah. I mean, unless Angel had brown eyes when she was a kid and had an epic eye transformation, then yes, they are your eye colour." I joked getting out of the car and walking to his porch.
He laughed while opening the door. "What's his hair like?"
"Well, it a mix between you two. Dirty blonde? Of course, he has like, three hairs." I said.
We got in the house, and saw Annabeth sitting on the couch, reading a book, probably just waiting for her son to come home. As soon as she heard us, she stood up, turned to Adam and covered her mouth, tears of joy and relief streaming down her face. She walked up to her son, and hugged him. He was almost 2 heads taller, and his arms wrapped tightly around her, protective. When they parted she wiped the tears of and smiled at me.
Taking a deep breath she said. "You guys want me to make something for you? There's mac and cheese, but I can..."
"Mac and Cheese!" We both shouted in excitement.
"Good thing you kids haven't changed one bit." She laughed stroking softly Adam's cheek.
We went to his room and sat on his bed, facing each other. He grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers. We came closer to the other, until our foreheads met. We stayed there for half an hour or so, talking about anything: our friends, our small everyday problems, and us. Just then, her mom called us down to eat. When I opened my eyes, I saw his deep, caring smile and face. He put my hand on the side of my neck and slowly brought me closer to him, just like before, only now, we closed our eyes and kissed. His lips felt soft against mine, gentle and sweet. Our first real kiss.
