"Parker?" Riley said as we walked to my place from the ice cream shop.

"What? Oh, sorry Riley, I got lost in my thoughts." I smiled at her.

"What were you thinking about?" She looked up at me.

"Well, remember that there was someone who put Adam in the state he's in?" I asked her.

"Yeah, he's a mean person." She frowned.

I sighed. "No, you see Riley. Whoever crashed him, is not necessarily a bad or good person. Maybe, let's say it's a man, -because really we don't know- he had had a fight with someone, and was out of control; or maybe his breaks wouldn't work; or he was sick, and had no idea whatsoever of what he was doing. OK?"

"Okay."

"So, I want to figure out if it was him or her, what was the reason the accident happened. I think it would make everything have more sense."

"Well, I think you should do whatever makes Adam wake up faster. Because you've changed a lot since the accident, and I miss the old Parker." She said as we walked down the street where my place was.

"What do you mean I've changed?" I asked curiously.

"You're less you. You don't do as many sarcastic jokes as before; or the fact that you're less fun now, and that really bothers me."

"Wait, I'm less fun? Really?" I laughed as I looked for the apartment's key.

"Yeah! I mean, you've stopped playing with me in the park, and whenever you go home to visit us, you spend half the time at the hospital!" She reproached.

"I'm sorry honey. I didn't know you felt this way." I said stopping in the middle of the stairs.

"See?! You always knew how I felt. It was like you read my mind! I'll admit, it was a little creepy, but I loved how much you knew me from all the time we spent together. Before, you were busy only with college. But now, Adam, who is unconscious, seems to be more important than your sister!" She cried. I wiped the tears of her face as I wrapped my arms around Riley trying to comfort my little sister in some way.

"I'm sorry Riley. I'm glad you told me this. You know you can tell me everything, anything, anytime. I'd never forget about you." I said stroking her hair.

"Promise?"

"How could I? You're my little sis." I smiled. She imitated me and her teeth showed a little. I loved the way she smiled. So innocent, so sweet. It was so different from the smiles I saw in the rest of the people surrounding me who were my age or older. Those smiles, although they were joyful and happy, they had a bittersweet look, like somewhere, even though it may be deep inside, something had been crushed, broken, or darkened. Riley's smile and one other were the only ones I saw around me that were completely bright.

As I opened the door to the apartment I found myself not only with my dad cooking with Laura, but guess who was there too? Charlie! Can my day get any worse? "Hi Parker! You didn't tell us you had a boyfriend. Charlie's so sweet! He's making dinner for all of us!" My step-mother said. Guess my day CAN get worse.

"I... Charlie...you..." I cleared my throat. "What are you doing here?" He stared at me for a few seconds, and I remembered. "Oh crap!" I shouted. As I realized what I just said in front of my 8-year-old sister AND my parents, I added, "Riley, don't ever repeat what I've just said."

"You had a date and you forgot?" Serena laughed entering the room.

"Stop it." I glanced at her with a killing stare. She raised her arms in surrender. "I'm sorry Charlie. They came over this morning and I totally forgot we had plans."

"It's no big deal, really. And who is this cute little girl?" He says changing the subject and smiling at Riley. At this question, my sister blushes and hides behind me squeezing my hand.

"This is Riley. Riley, this is Charlie. This is the friend I've told you about. Mind to say hello?" I smiled at her. She slowly came out from her hiding place and stretched out her hand to the boy-man standing next to my father. He walked towards her and shook her little hand.

"Your sister told me lots of things about you too, you know?" He said.

"I tell you 1 thing. You better treat my big sister how she deserves, ok?"

He laughed trying not to and shook my sister's hand. Then we arranged the table and sat down to eat: Riley, Charlie, my dad, Laura, Serena, Stella and me. We could have talked all night. My dad interrogated Charlie trying to act as a cold father, but he couldn't deny how much he got to like him. Before dessert, Riley made us play the game where you have to guess the animal one person is thinking by asking yes/no questions. After 2 pieces of chocolate cake, it was already 9:30 pm, and considering we had started eating around 6:30, I went to the door with Charlie.

"I had a great time. Your family is awesome." He said.

"Really?" I asked in disbelief.

"Have you met mine? They are a piece of shit compared to yours!" He chuckled.

"You're joking." I laughed.

"No I'm not. And you are pretty cool too." He smiled pushing my hair behind my ear.

Obviously, turned tomato red. "Thanks."

He slowly leaned in and gave me a sweet short kiss. "Talk to you later." He said opening the door and leaving.

As I closed it, I leaned against it biting my lower lip with a smirk stuck in my face. I couldn't stop smiling 'til the end of the night. I had had a great time, and I had just found this guy who liked me and made me smile. It was that night when I went to bed when I realized: during the hours that I spent with him, I forgot about Adam. I found the guy who made me forget about the bad things in life. Everything was nice and warm around him. But it seems that that wasn't enough.

A/N: Hey readers! Or what's left of you? I'm so so so sorry for having you wait so long, but I hope this was worth the wait.  Bye!
