The sudden sunlight brushed my eyes as I got near his car. I rushed inside, and told Adam we were arriving late. "Hurry up! Alex and Laura will kill us!"

"I'm sorry, my car is not at her best. Give Maia a break." He said as we drove away from the gas station.

"She's a piece of crap!" I demanded. A cold wind sent me a freezing feeling as I realized something. "Wait, aren't my dad and Laura already married?"

"What?" he asked. And then we crashed.

I woke up panting. I sighed in relief as Adam got up in the same sitting position as me. We were in my bed in California. But something was wrong.

"It's okay Parker. Go back to sleep." He calmed me down patting me in the back. Something was clearly not right.

"What? No, you're not supposed to be here. You're in the hospital!" I screamed-whispered.

"I know. It's a pity. If you had waited for me, you could've told me to take a short-cut, and that car would've never crashed against us. But now instead, I'm nearly dead." He said, his voice pumping in my ears like blood. Like the blood that was now dripping from his head and nose.

"No! Adam! No, no, no...!" I woke up for real this time, screaming. It was just a dream, nothing more. I told myself.

When my heart started beating at its normal rate, Riley said with a scared whisper from outside the room, "Parker?"

"Riley, I'm sorry I woke you up. Go back to sleep, I'm fine." I lied with a smile hoping she would buy it. But my sister is smarter than that.

"Can I stay with you? I had a nightmare too." She said before a thunder made us tremble. She ran to my bed and pulled the covers over her head. The rain was loud outside.

"Don't worry, it's just a storm." I said comforting her.

"Can you sing the lullaby?" She murmured.

"Sure." I said stroking her hair. I started singing the same song that used to calm her down when she was a baby and I was babysitting her.

Come stop your crying, it'll be alright.

Just take my hand, hold it tight.

I will protect you from all around you

I will be here, don't you cry...

For one so small, you seem so strong,

My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm.

This bond between us, can't be broken.

I will be here, don't you cry...

Riley smiled and started whispering the lyrics with me.

Cause you'll be in my heart,

Yes you'll be in my heart,

From this day on, now and forever more...

The first night I was taking care of her, she just wouldn't stop crying. I tried everything, so I thought she would calm by watching a movie. Tarzan was on TV, and as soon as this lullaby came up she stopped and just stared at the screen. I sang it to her since, and even though I'm not good at singing, she seems to like it.

As I finished the song, she slowly drifted away. "Goodnight my little Tarzan girl." I kissed her forehead and closed my eyes.

Next morning I woke up and Riley was already up. I heard my dad talk to my now step-mom downstairs. I looked at my phone and noticed it was 12:45. "Oh crap!" I shouted with my scratchy morning voice as I fell off the bed. I remembered last night staying up late watching Netflix.

I took off my pyjamas; changed into over-all shorts and a white, baggy t-shirt; washed my face; grabbed a bag and ran down the stairs.

"Hi guys." I said going to the kitchen where they were all talking and now looking at me. I got my favourite mug, filled it up with coffee, kissed them goodbye, and grabbed my keys to leave. "Bye guys!" I said.

"Wow wait! Where are you going?" My dad asked from the counter.

"Promised Sophie I'd help her with a class project. Have to meet her at 1.!"

"Hurry up!" They shouted and laughed.

I got inside my car and started the engine trying a few times. Before I drove away from my house, I connected my phone to the car's stereo and clicked on shuffle, as the lead singer pf Journey, started singing 'Don't stop believing'.

I glanced at the rear view mirror, and groaned at how tired my face looked.

'Street light people

Living just to find emotion!

Hiding, somewhere in the niiiight!'

I sang along these awesome lyrics.

When I got to Sophie's house I went through my keychain until I found my pink colored one. We had a copy of each other's front doors, so I had to color them, considering we're 7. This way we were prepared for emergencies: Like when one was to depressed to go down the stairs and open the door (break ups).

"Hi?" I asked opening the door to find a very crazy Sophie.

"Where the hell were you!? I have to hand in this history project tomorrow, and I asked you to come at 1 because you took history in high school! Now you're an hour late and look like you have the world's worst hangover after Ross and Rachel's in Las Vegas!"

"Okay. First thing's first: I'm starving. Please tell me there's something in your fridge. Then, calm down and tell me exactly what you have to do."

"Frozen pasta from last night, and the assignment on the kitchen island."

"Great! Let's get started. Do you have tomato sauce?" She stared at me with a look that could kill. "I'll look for it. Got it. Aren't you having lunch."

"I had a tuna sandwich waiting for you."

After 2 hours of explaining what the WWI's causes and consequences were, we finally finished the essay.

"Do you want to go somewhere to get some coffee?" She asked.

"As appealing as that might sound, I have plans at 5 with Adam's mom."

"How is she?"

"She's good. Better than me I think. According to Angel, I'm not as good as before." I said slowly.

"None of us are. Waiting for something that may or may not happen is exhausting."

"I had a nightmare about it." I snapped.

"What?!" She asked shocked.

That's when the doorbell rang.

A/N: How did you like the new chapter?! Please listen to the movie version of 'you'll be in my heart' if you haven't yet, it's incredibly sweet with that motherly tone.
