Lily's POV:

Marlene chased after me, pressed a bag into my hand, then skipped away, bound to spread the news. I sighed and went up to the dorms to change quickly. I took off my school uniform and changed into a knee-length pure white dress. I shoved my feet into black sandals and quickly did a fishtail thrown to the side. I skipped the makeup, bound to look natural.

I pulled out the small bag that Marlene had given me, which turned out to have little sweets in it, a couple of pink lemon drops. I tossed one into my mouth to make sure my breath didn't smell, and grabbed a black cardigan.

I rushed down and found James waiting for me patiently. He had just taken off his robes, but had a light blue button-down shirt, with a loose tie, and black jeans.

We walked outside, the silence a little too long, but nevertheless, I didn't have to put up with his awful puns or asking-outs. I started counting how long it would take for him to ask me out.

"So?" James asked, looking at me in a way that made me feel like I was the only person in the world. "So what?" I asked, crossing my arms and brushing my hair back. James tried to sneak an arm over my shoulder but I gave him a harsh glare and a hard slap, causing him to recoil.

"What's your favorite color?" he asked, completely out-of-the-blue. I fidgeted a bit while we walked out of the Great Hall to the grounds, where some people were lounging and reading, or the group of girls that were giggling at the edge of the lake.

"I'd have to say garnet? More red though," I mused quietly. "Why brown and red, of all colors?" he asked, running a hand through his dark hair. "Not the color of terracotta or bricks. More like, a pretty earthy color or amber," I tried to explain, using my hands. "I mean, brown and red is such a natural color, not tainted by anything artificial, like bright pink or neon yellow. It's garnet," I emphasized, "I mean, if you've ever taken a look at a shard of amber or topaz or garnet, it's captivating."

We were silent for awhile. James led me over to a spot under a tall willow tree, where we sat comfortably. He put his arms behind his head and leaned back. "How about you?" I asked, looking over, which happened to be where his armpit was. Ugh. Thankfully he hadn't just come from quidditch, so he didn't reek of sweat and blood. I became a little immersed in his arm, which was quite muscular.

He looked at me oddly, but continued. I quickly averted my eyes from his arm.

"Red," he stated simply. "Why?" I asked, hesitant. "Red's beautiful and ugly," he laughed, "it can represent a lot. It represents bloodshed, war, danger, sacrifice, courage, bravery, but it also shows a fiery temper, strength, passion, desire, and love."

I laughed at the "fiery temper" part, pretty sure that he meant me, and he chuckled with me. "I thought you'd have picked gold, because it means flashy, superior, dominant, and shiny," I smiled. "If anything, gold would have to be one of my least favorites. My second favorite is emerald green."

"Why?" I asked, then realized. "Emerald green is the color of your eyes," he remarked as I blushed furiously. "And gold is not my favorite because it reminds me too much of something I don't want to miss, but I..I-can't," he sighs, looking rather handsome as he wistfully gazed towards the sunset, his face deep in thought.

Wait, Lily. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO, THIS IS WRONG. You cannot think of him as attractive.

James looked at me, his head turning in surprise.

DID I JUST SAY THAT OUT LOUD? OH CRAP

"Oh, does Evans think I'm attractive?" he asked, grinning like mad. "No," I said defensively. He gave me a look and I rolled my eyes. "Okay, maybe," I fidgeted, "But just because I think you're..you know..doesn't mean I like you. You can think a celebrity hot or handsome, but that doesn't mean you'd like to date them."

James tried to hide his wide grin, but I could tell he was dancing with joy inside. I rolled my eyes but laughed.

He had a great smile, wide and full of life as he grinned.

James turned towards me, brows furrowed.

DID I SAY THAT ALOUD AGAIN?! IDIOT LILY IDIOT LILY IDIOT LILY

"EVANS THINKS THAT I'M ADORABLE!" he laughed in glee, dancing around and shouting so loud that all the girls at the lake shot me dirty looks.

"I DO NOT!" I practically howled in rage, blushing redder than Teresa's lipstick, standing up and stomping my foot.

"I DO!" I blurted, then immediately covered my mouth, then screamed, "NO, I DO NOT!" This went on for quite awhile with a bunch of people shooting me dirty looks and looking annoyed, while James grinned but looked at me like I was some alien. As soon as I sat down, I realized, "Marlene."

James gave me a weird look and I growled. The lemon drops she gave me must have had a diluted Truth Serum in them, probably not Veritaserum, but a Truth Serum.

I looked at him and he looked at me. "Go out with me?" he asked sweetly, those hazel eyes looking up at me in adoration.

I sighed.

9 minutes and 45 seconds.

A/N: For those of you confused, the "9 minutes and 45 seconds" thing was Lily counting how long it took James to ask her out, as stated before earlier in the chapter.

Did you guys catch that the 9 minutes and 45 seconds is equal to 9 3/4 :)
