Lily's POV:

I was storming down the Great Hall, walking even faster than Potter who was walking behind me, fueled by rage and anger. I could see through my peripheral vision that small first years and even 7th years taller than Potter quickly gathered around, probably hoping for some drama. Oh bloody hell. They thought he had asked me out again. Which he had.

I caught a glimpse of platinum blond hair whipping around the corner quickly and exhaled sharply.

"OH NO YOU DON'T, MARLENE!" I roared, sprinting forward and grabbing a handful of her hair. Marlene howled in pain.

"Lily!" James pleaded, looking at me, "what's gotten into you?"

"Her," I hissed, throwing her a disgusted look.

I let go of Marlene's hair but faced her, folding my arms and doing my best to glare at her, though usually I wasn't one for glaring.

"What happened?" he asked, looking at both of us. "She," I said, positively seething with rage,"gave me a bag of supposedly lemon drops, which contained Truth Serum. That's why I was blurting out all of those things."

I saw her trying to escape sneakily but snarled and grabbed her arm.

"MARLENE!" I shrieked, "HOW COULD YOU?! I KNEW YOU WANTED US TO GET TOGETHER, BUT THIS?! THIS?! IT'S THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, MARLENE! AND JUST AS POTTER AND I ARE GETTING TO A MORE FRIENDLY STAGE, YOU COME AND FEED ME SOME TRUTH POTION, THINKING THAT-THAT, SPILLING ALL MY SECRETS WILL HELP THE RELATIONSHIP! YOU KNOW WHAT, MARLENE?  I-I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE. IT'S OVER."

My voice broke on the last word. I was determined not to cry, but I was beginning to feel those tears pricking at the back of my eyes. I could see Potter next to me, pressing his lips together tightly, and looking away sadly.

"Why?" I asked her, looking into those now guilt-ridden blue eyes. Her shoulders were hunched over, like they were when she was scared or worried.

"Slughorn. During the train ride, he called me in and told me that I missed one of his lessons last year. He said that he wouldn't be reteaching it and that it would be in the N.E.W.T.'s. You were at the Head meeting, but the others knew I left. So he gave me the book and the ingredients. Slughorn wasn't supposed to leave the room, but he got an urgent Patronus telling him to immediately head up," she said shakily.

I shot her a cold look. "Why'd you feed it to me then?"

"I don't..know," she said slowly. "You don't know?!" I screeched, "you feed a Truth Serum to me, and YOU DON'T KNOW?!"

I lunged at her, hands about to grab her neck, but James held me back as he called out for Teresa. Her eyes widened and she rushed over and restrained me, quite strong for her delicate build.

"LET GO OF ME!" I howled at Teresa. In the moment, I felt angry and powerful and I could nearly feel my eyes turning darker in anger. I turned towards her and grabbed my wand that was sticking out from my pocket. I held it towards the ground and whispered, "Bombarda." Her eyes grew wide as the ground rumbled and it blasted, throwing Teresa back.

James had shouted, "Muffliato!" before I cast the spell so as not to attract attention. But he grabbed my wrists again to keep me restrained as I squirmed in his grasp, hissing and spitting and grabbing Marlene.

"What's gotten into you, Lily? You normally don't scream at people, much less try to choke them to death," James said worriedly, his eyes scrunching together.

"Just like a floating, warm sensation, like it was really nice," Marlene described hurriedly, "but even then, I could feel a cold feeling on the back of my neck, like this wasn't right."

I felt a chill on the back of my neck, telling me that that was very suspicious. Still I frowned and looked away from her stubbornly.

James looked suddenly alarmed. "Wait, you made this potion?" he asked, "and the ingredients are from Slughorn? Did he get it from his case he always carries with him?" Marlene looked confused but said, "Yes, he took them out of his case. Why?"

James suddenly looked very panicked. "Lily," he said, turning to me urgently, "do you feel anything? Anything at all?" "Why?" I asked. Even my voice sounded higher than usual.

He looked grim. "I saw some Slytherins poking around his bag." He sounded tinny and far away. I could feel myself paling visibly.

I looked at him, and grabbed his arms to keep myself upright. I felt like throwing up. I could feel his muscles underneath his sleeves.

James just looked at me, concerned, and grabbed my arms to support me. "I'm-I'm fine," I stuttered, smiling weakly. "Lily," Marlene started, but I interrupted her with a cold stare. "Don't you dare, Marlene."

I took a few wobbly steps, but straightened up and smiled. "See? I am perfectly fine. Fine. One hundred percent fine. Even more than that. One hundred and fifty percent fine."

Normal people who are fine don't say fine 4 times in a row, Lily!  I scolded myself mentally.

I stood on the spot, but then realized I was swaying and before I knew it, the white-tiled floor rose up to meet me.
