Lily's POV:

All the girls were drooling when I walked into DADA. What was such the big deal? I plopped down and took out my wand and books. James was grinning when he walked in and sat next to me, propping his feet up on the desk as I cast him a dirty look.

The professor was shuffling some papers and looked up as the class quieted down. He smiled and took off his glasses and set them on the desk.

"Greetings to you all. My name is Professor Brie. For your information, it is not a girl's name. I am substituting for your class for awhile, due to the fact that your new professor is currently suffering a severe case of the Mumblemumps. I will be your temporary teacher. In fact, I graduated from Hogwarts last year. It's good to be back! Let's get started. We will today we practicing the Patronus Charm."

All the guys in the class had been bored and grumpy, trying to get the girls to look back at them and not at the professor. All the girls groaned when they heard that he would not be permanent. The boys grinned when he stated it.

The Marauders stiffened when they heard the Patronus Charm and smirked at each other, though I had no idea why.

"Does anybody know what the Patronus Charm is?" Professor Brie (really, what a silly name) inquired. My hand shot up in the air immediately. Teresa looked rather put-out that she didn't know the answer. Adelaide was looking bored and didn't seem interested, chipping at her pink nails. Alice was gabbing away to Frank who looked delighted that Alice wasn't head-over-heels with the new professor. Lorena Kwickle knew it too and raised her hand, waving it eagerly while shooting a smug smile at all the girls.

The professor smiled at the number of raised hands, though I was certain 90% of the hands raised were girls who didn't know and were just doing it to impress the professor. He looked around then set his eyes on me, his chocolate eyes looking into mine. I was unfazed but he grinned and said, "The beautiful young lady in the front. What's your name?"

I could see James turned redder by the second and was about to blow. This is too good to pass up. And how many times did he annoy the dung out of me?

I smiled at the teacher and stated, "Lily Evans, sir."

"Ah, what a beautiful name for a beautiful young lady. Now, would you tell us what the Patronus is?"

I saw all the other girls cast me dirty looks and also some jealous glances. James was practically growling and I saw Sirius, Remus, and Peter lean over to hold him back.

"The Patronus Charm is the most famous and one of the most powerful defensive charms known. It is an immensely complicated and extremely difficult spell that evokes a partially-tangible positive energy force known as a Patronus or spirit guardian. It is the primary protection against Dementors against which there is no other defense," I finished.

He beamed and said, "Perfect! Today we will be looking into these and the main differences between a non-corporeal Patronus and a corporeal Patronus. We will also be practicing the wand movement and incantation, tomorrow will be demonstration and practice."

There was a shuffling as the girls hastily took out the books and even some, trying to impress him, tried to summon it out of their bag. I rolled my eyes and took it out, flipping automatically to the bookmarked page where I had read up on it beforehand.

The rest of class was spent on the teacher showing us the incantation and the wand movement. Professor Brie showed us. He rolled up his sleeves, revealing muscles at which girls sighed wistfully at and guys scoffed, disgusted at.

"What?! I have better muscles than that!" I heard James whisper furiously. I smirked.

The Professor grinned, pulled out his wand, and declared, "Expecto Patronum!" as a large shape floated out the wand and fashioned itself into some sort of bat. It was a large bat, perhaps the size of the professor's head. It was a ghostly color, white and misty, and it flapped around the room before disappearing with a wave of the wand.

"A Patronus," Professor Brie started, looking at Teresa, who was grinning, "takes the shape and form of an animal that is closest to your personality. For example, mine is a bat. Many people interpret bats as a sign of fear and darkness, but that is not necessarily true. Bats represent sensitivity, intuition, dreaming, vision, and communication." He paused and continued, "Bats also show the ability to see through illusions and dive straight to the truth."

"Mr. Black, is it?" the professor whirled around, frowning at Sirius. Sirius smirked and said haughtily, "There's no need to be so racist, Professor Brie." "Why don't you show us the Patronus Charm, since you seem to be too busy to listen?" he inquired. Sirius smirked and sauntered up to the front of the room, where he leaned against the desk lazily, flicked his wand, and said, "Expecto Patronum!" A great big dog lept out of his wand, prancing around the room before fading away. The teacher frowned but said, "Very well, Mr. Black. But please pay attention."

"Sure thing, Brie!" he snickered. Remus raised his eyebrows, but I could see a smile tugging at his lips. James wasn't even paying attention, he was glaring at the professor.

Soon, class ended and the boys quickly swept out the room, determined to get out first. The girls sighed longingly, stuffed their books in their bags, and cast one last glance at the handsome young professor before scuttling out.

"Oh my gosh," Teresa squealed, waving her manicured hands in the air. "The new professor is so cute! And he's only a year older than us and he went here!" Alice rolled her eyes. I blew a breath of air out when we reached outside, the little puff of air showing before vaporizing in a misty cloud. Adelaide finished off her braid and twisted it into an elegant bun. "Merlin, Teresa! He's a bloody professor! And honestly, he seems so serious, like can you smile?"

"He smiled," Teresa argued defensively. "When?" Adelaide demanded. "..he smiled at me..and Lily, mostly," Teresa said, trailing off. They all whirled towards me. "What?!" I asked defensively, "Of course I'm not going for him! I just wanted to see Potter's reaction!" Alice snickered and Adelaide laughed at the look on Teresa's face. "You were using him?" she asked, dumbfounded. "Hey, how many times have you seen me get mad over Potter?" I asked, crossing my arms. Teresa relaxed and giggled a bit.

We all linked arms and strolled down the hall, not realizing that there was someone behind the shadows, watching us.
