Chapter Thirty-five
Kira Davis
I woke up to the smell of burnt toast and bacon. I rolled over seeing Devon staring at me. He was just smiling cheek to cheek. I sat up looking at him crazy. "What's that smell" I asked him. He began laughing before he spoke.
"Daria is downstairs trying to learn how to cook" he said.
"And why you staring at me like that" I said hiding my face with the pillow. Devon chuckled some more before removing the pillow.
"Your beautiful face" he said causing me to blush, "Now get up, babe" he pulled up me on to his lap. I looked at him crazy. Knowing Devon, he'd probably had something planned.
I got up going in the bathroom. I cut the shower on putting my hair in a bun.
I took a ten minute shower before getting ready, which took me forever to find something. But, decided on a t-shirt dress.
"Babe, you ready" I heard Devon come in to the bedroom aloud. I'd peeked my head out the bathroom shaking it no. He groaned sitting on the bed. I laughed going back to my hair.
"You know you meeting your uncle today" he said, "I heard he doesn't like to wait on people for too long" he chuckled. I unplugged the flat iron walking in to room.
I giggled before speaking, "now I'm ready, babe" I said grabbing my purse.
"Your uncle is one scary dude, you know that" Devon pulled his shoes on, grabbing his keys.
"You don't say" I said sarcastically. I still couldn't believe my dad never said he had siblings. It's been five weeks since I've find out about everything.
I wasn't gonna lie to myself. I was a little scared of meeting my uncle. From what I heard about him, he seemed scary.
I went out to the car as Devon told Daria something before coming out.
Today felt like a drowsy day. It wasn't much to do today. I'd casually played with the radio while Dev drove.
I was doing some thinking when someone hit us from behind. Devon looked at me while I looked at him.
The person kept ramming into the back of us. Dev swerved into the other lane, trying to get away. But, the other car followed us.
"Wtf" Devon screamed out.
"Who is this person" I said, "what do they want" I was so scared at this point. I didn't know to what to do. Dev gently placed his hand on my hand.
"It's going to be alright, baby" he said.
The dark burgundy car kept following us for a minute. Dev had to take a detour losing the car. We watched as it went drove by but, then it turned around. The car approached us very slowly. All I could see was the windows was slightly down. That's when Devon screamed out, "Get down" he hurriedly drove off as the person started shooting at us.
Devon reached under my seat grabbing his gun. He rolled down his window, firing back at the person.
After a while, Devon hit another detour losing the car for good this time.
After we had stop for a while, we'd tried to figure out who that was shooting at us.
I took a deep breath trying to get myself together again. Devon gently rubbed my thigh while he talked on the phone to someone. He looked over at me rubbing my cheek.
"It's gonna be alright" he said getting off the phone.
"I know I have you" I said calmly. Dev leaned over kissing my cheek. He started the car again. We headed to my parents house with no problems this time.
By the time we got there, it was somewhat a full house.
"Well, y'all showed up in time" my dad said coming from the kitchen. I chuckled a little bit sitting down next to Brooklynn.
"Hey dad" I said, "where's mom" I asked him.
"She went to the store" he said sitting across from me, "why you look so shaken up" he asked.
"Devon and I just got shot at" I stated.
"Omg, what happened" I heard Brooklynn say, looking up from her phone. She rubbed my back as my dad stood up walking in to the kitchen. He seemed very different. He wasn't himself ever since I've find out about my uncle.
"Tell me everything that happened" Brooklynn said. I looked at her about to say something but, my dad came back in with my uncle.
"This car that followed yall, describe it" my uncle said.
I looked up at him. He looked just like my dad. You could tell they was brothers. Now I see where Brooklynn and I get our looks from.
"It was a dark burgundy car and the license plate was JNIPE22" I stated. Uncle Troy shook his head whispering my dad's ear. Their expressions changed instantly.
I watched as my dad and uncle exchange a few words to my mom and aunt before leaving.
"Nobody told you, did they" Brooklynn told me. I looked at her surprisingly.
"Told me what" I asked.
"Everything your parents told you in your life is a lie" she said, "Trust me I know" she assured me. I guess she read my facial expression.
"What's going on" I was curious now. What was going on now?
"Your dad runs a successful kingpin with my dad" she said.
"Wait what? My dad is a lawyer" I simply said. "That's not possible" I groaned.
"That lawyer job is a cover up just like my dad being a pastor" she said answering her phone.
I sat there taking in the words Brooklynn just told me. Everything I'd been told during my life is pretty much a lie. I didn't want to believe it but, something told me deep down inside, it was true.
