Hiboku
"Hmm. Back to feeling sorry for ourselves again I see." She smirked seeming to come out of the shade of the trees. "Why are you here?" I growled not wanting her in my presence. Ever since 'she' appeared the distance between my friends and I had grown further apart, besides the fact that my poor constitution didn't allow for me to do the daily tasks that they do.
"Hey, why such hostility? I haven't done anything." she shrugged putting up her hands.
"Go away, you sakyubasu." I growled again, voice dripping with sadness and pent-up anger.
"Hey, now. Its not my fault your friends misunderstood me." She replied with that silken voice of hers. It angered me as to how attractive I found it as well as the rest of her.
"You practically insulted them by telling them they weren't worth my time and effort!!!" I yelled my voice cracking as I still hadn't reached manhood quite yet.
"Well they aren't. Or rather you aren't worth their time since you are the weak one here in the end." The sakyubasu retorted.
"You think I don't know that!!!! Why do you continue to torment me? I have nothing to offer you and other than being the weakling that I am, what could I have possibly done to warrant your constant provocation?" I cried out, hurt and falling deeper into my anger.
"Because I want to help you." the vixen responded.
"Lies!! How is driving away my friends helping me!?!"
"They would've done so later. I helped out by making the process sooner."
"You!!! Argghhh-" My anger had finally reached its boiling point and started to affect my health. I could only lament in anguish as my body lamely started to convulse.
"Hiboku!!!" The vixen exclaimed before rushing forward to catch my body. "I'm sorry!!"
Those were the last words I heard before my consciousness faded.
************************************************************************
It was a while before I awoke. With no idea of how long I was out, I tried to get up only to find someone obstructing my body from doing so. It was 'her'. I had nearly let my anger take over only to stop before I could do anymore damage to myself. Seeming to feel my movements the vixen woke up. "You- you're okay!!!" She cried out throwing her arms around my neck, appearing concerned and regretful. "I'm sorry!! I didn't mean for it to go this far!!!"
Confused, I grabbed her by the shoulders and held her at arms length. "What do you mean by sorry? If it hadn't been for you, I still would've had my friends and avoided that unnecessary spasm. Since that first encounter that day you've done nothing but harass me and drive my friends away. I have already mentioned countless times that I want nothing to do with you. Why do you continue to pester me?" I spouted exasperated.
"I-I'm really sorry okay? I honestly only wanted to be near you-. "
"Why do you want to be near me? My body is obviously weak beyond anything and quite frankly I'm sure my physical appearance resembles a fresh corpse."
In response to my interruption she pouts. "Have you ever considered the possibility that I enjoy being in your presence and that I could care less about your looks and weaknesses?"
Dumbfounded I give the vixen a look before ranting, "So all the insults towards my weak deposition and my existence, all the times you drove my friends away, and nearly driving me to my own death was a form of you showing your affection towards me?"
She nodded eagerly, seeming glad that I finally understood her actions. "You have been-no, are the most despicable person I've ever encountered in my entire 13 years of life. Do you even understand that what you've done over the past year has completely earned me isolation from my childhood friends and endless turmoil within my heart over my disease? And yet you say you did all of this because you enjoy my company? What person even does that?"
"I thought that when one person falls for another they would go through any cost to keep them. And as for the insults, they're the truth. Are you not supposed to be completely faithful and honest to the one that captures your heart?" She asked puzzled.
I nearly collapsed hearing her answer. Sighing, I decided to humor her and give her a lecture."When you love someone, yes you do feel as if you want to keep them stored away as if they were a priceless treasure, however you have to understand that the actions you make can harm them. As for being truthful you also have to be wary of what you say, else it becomes another way that you are harming them. By chasing away my friends and constantly reminding me about my weakness I've harbored an extreme hatred towards you. I just nearly lost my life a few seconds ago due to your words."
"Oh." She replied, thinking over what I had said.
Although I still felt a massive amount of enmity, a part of me forgave her. Coughing awkwardly to regain her attention, I asked her to move in order to stand. "I am going back home now. If you want to make it up to me you can start my apologizing to my friends." Retrieving my books, I walked in the direction where Sensei's house was without looking back. "Bye, sakyubasu."
"Hmph. Fool! My name is Marichen Saiyuki! As if I'm going to apologize to those mindless village boys! I'm only interested in you and not them!" She yelled.
Rolling my eyes, I ignored her last remark and continued on to Sensei's house. Hopefully he had some work for me to do so that I could distract myself.
