Chapter 17-Well, At least I'm Invisible

It's been two days. When he told me he was going to be outta town for a 'couple days', I never thought it'd actually be more than two days, because lets face it 'a couple days' for me are just more than just one day...and two days are more than one, so...

I was walking in the hallway on my way to my English class, which reminds me that me and Jason should really work on that soon cause we'll be needing to turn it in pretty soon. It was obvious that I'd bump into something or rather someone today as I haven't stumbled upon anything up until now. I mean there's not a day that passes by without me being my clumsy self.

"We really should stop meeting like this. I mean why can't we just meet like any other normal people?" I looked up to lock eyes with those ocean blue.

He had a grin that made me grin back in return, his smile is just way too contagious for his own good.

"I guess bumping into each other is kinda our thing" I said still smiling.

"Like 'okay' in the fault of our stars kinda thing? " he teased with a smirk.

"Maybe" I chuckled and he joined me too.

But when he suddenly stopped laughing and his smile faded away, I knew there was something wrong, something that was bothering him so much.
"Are you okay?" I asked softly placing my hand gently on his shoulder.

"Yeah..."

"You're such a bad liar, tell me the truth, you know you can trust me"

"I'm not good honestly..." he breathed.

"Kind of figured that out. What's wrong? Do you wanna talk about it?" I asked softly.

"I don't know, I've never really talked about this to anyone...come with me" he said softly and grabbed my hand suddenly leading me to wherever he was taking me.

I let him lead me all the way to the gymnasium, which was empty by the way, and I think that's what he wanted, somewhere where we could be alone. I seated myself on the bench and he just stood there infront of me moving his hand in stress through his light brown hair. I grabbed his free hand giving it a gentle squeeze to reassure him that everything was going to be alright. He closed his eyes briefly letting out a soft sigh before finally revealing those ocean blue again.

"It's my mom..." he said ever so softly that I barely heard him.

"She has this surgery tomorrow, my dad is on a business trip and...I don't think I c-can do this, Grace" he said and I couldn't help but notice his voice cracking in the end.

"Don't hold it in, let it out. You've got my shoulder to lean on" I said noticing that he was blinding rapidly trying to desperately hold back the tears that I knew threatened to fall at any second.

"I don't think I can do this alone"

And right then and there, his head fell on my shoulder hiding in my neck as sobs finally managed to escape his lips. The sound of his pained sobs broke my heart, his face was hiding in my neck as if begging me to shield him from the cruelty this world had to give him. I couldn't do anything really but hold him tight, he needed to know that he wasn't alone and that he'll never be. He'll always have me as a friend.

"You're not alone, I'm right here and I'm not leaving, okay?" I whispered in his ear as silent tears rolled down my cheeks.

"Both you and me are going to the hospital tomorrow and you're gonna be strong for your mom. You have no idea how much your strength will help her get through this" I said rubbing his back soothingly.
