Chapter 20-Time Is What We Want Most, But What We Use Worst
My eyes fluttered open slowly as I took in my surroundings, I was in my room. When the hell did I get here? I frowned slightly when I heard voices coming from outside my room. Just as I was trying to sit up, did the door of the room open.
"No, you're not moving, missy" I heard her familiar voice as she walked into the room and quickly towards my bed.
"What happened? " I asked groaning as she pushed me down gently to lay down.
I felt like my head was going to explode at any given second. My head was going round and round in circles and I felt sick.
"You don't remember? " Just now did I notice Alex standing by the doorframe with his hands shoved deep in his pockets.
"No..." I trailed off with a slight frown.
All I remember was what I wanted to forget, and that was Jason's words.
"I was late for class because I slept in as I've been staying up all night to look after my siblings. But then I found you passed out on the floor..." he explained with a frown at the memory.
"I didn't know what to do, I freaked out seeing you lifeless like that. Vicky thankfully was there and told me that we had to bring you back here and that your family would know what to do" he continued telling me what happened since I've apparently been out cold the whole time.
"Justin then called the family's doctor and he came in no time. Grace...he said the reason was that you either didn't take your medication or that you've stressed out your heart. What happened? " Vicky said with a frown as she seated herself on the bed, taking a hold of my hand and giving it a light squeeze.
"I did take my medication, I promise. It's just that...I don't really know what happened" I said looking away and at my window, which was closed, my purple curtains preventing me from seeing if the sun was still up there or was already gone.
"What medication? What's happening here?" Alex questioned making both me and Vicky snap our heads into his direction.
We then glanced at each other before finally letting our gaze fall again on Alex.
"You might wanna sit down for this" I said softly with a small frown on my face.
I took a deep breath in before starting to tell him everything. It felt good to finally tell someone other than my family and best friend. He was silent the whole time I told him how my disease all started when I was a little kid. He listened and that was all I wanted from him. I knew that I could trust him and that when I asked him to not tell anyone or not to treat me differently than before, that I could count on him on that.
"How come you never told me?" He asked quietly after sitting there silent for quite some time now.
"My family are the only ones that knows. I don't want this to leak out to the whole world or for anyone to treat me any different than before" I said looking down as I fiddled with my fingers.
"So you weren't gonna tell me if it wasn't for me finding you unconscious in the hallway?" He asked, I was about to answer when he cut me off.
"I should feel quite lucky then" he added with a small smirk, trying to lighten up the mood.
"Yup" Vicky said popping out the 'p'.
Just when Alex was about to open his mouth and say something, he was cut off by Vicky's phone going off. I cringed at her rather too loud ring tone before she excused herself and left the room. Leaving me and Alex all alone.
