Chapter 30-An Addiction I Never Wanna Be Cured From
I watched as she sat there on the couch, flipping through channels in search of a good movie, when suddenly the sound of the door bell echoed throughout the eerie silent house. My gaze found her again as she reluctantly pushed herself up from the couch and walked past me and towards the front door.
I found myself following right after, I stood just a few feet away from her as she opened the door to reveal the new visitor. The one I came to realise to be my mother's mom, grandma. They both looked awfully alike.
I watched as mom let her in, stepping aside as if they could see me. They walked past me and back into the living room, I could see the many emotions running through my mother's green emerald eyes.
"I'm not gonna ask why you're even here, but I have one question to ask"
Mom asked once they sat down in the living room.
"Ask anything" grandma said with a hopeful small smile.
"Dad had left me a letter, I just read it yesterday. From what he's said, he was gonna leave you long before I was even born. There was a secret that he found out about and that's why he wanted to leave...what was that secret? " mom asked.
"It's not important"
Grandma said, her smile suddenly dropped. What was she hiding? It's obviously something important if grandpa decided to once leave her for it.
"If it wasn't important then dad wouldn't have thought that you owe it to me, he told me to ask you about that secret" mom said irritated.
"Maddie-"
"What is it? Tell me"
"Tell-"
"You have a stepbrother"
And that's all it took for my head to start spinning along with the whole house. I sealed my eyes shut tightly, clutching my head as an obnoxious noise echoed throughout wherever this place I was stuck in was. Voices were heard in the distance and I didn't know how to grasp onto anything, I was suddenly losing everything, myself.
"Grace..."
My eyes fluttered open when I heard her familiar voice. There she stood before me, her hand held out for me to take. I grabbed her hand without a hesitation or a second thought. She helped me up, I looked deeply into her brown eyes, searching for something I yet to know what it is. Her once full of life and joyful chocolate brown orbs were suddenly a dark shade of brown, dull even and lifeless.
"My mom has a stepbrother? Then doesn't that mean that..." I trailed off frowning weakly in confusion.
"Yes...you have an uncle, Grace"
My head snapped to my right in his direction to find him standing there, giving me a sad small smile.
"Why am I only knowing this now? " I heard myself crack, what was going on?
"He doesn't know either that he has a stepsister nor a niece for that matter" grandpa said quietly.
"But..."
"Your mom chose not to ruin what she had with him before the truth was revealed" It was Maya explaining further this time.
"Ruin what? " I asked moving my gaze towards her.
"A friendship" she said simply.
"What?" I asked in utter confusion.
