Chapter 10

Annabeth POV
It was lunch time. I had been dreading this period the entire day. I made my way to an empty table, trying not to be noticed by somebody I knew.
Piper POV
I set my lunch tray down, laughing at something Jason had said. As I looked around the table,mi noticed someone was missing.
"Where's Annabeth?" I asked.
Everyone shrugged. "She was in class today." Said Selene. "But she didn't seem to be paying attention."
"Yeah." Agreed Percy. "I tried to talk to her this morning but she seemed a little... off."
I shrugged. "She's probably fine." I said, not believing myself.
We started eating lunch, laughing together, but I ate quietly. Then I stood up and picked up my lunch tray.
"Where are you going?" Asked Hazel.
"Finding Annabeth." I answered.
I made my way across the cafeteria to the tables that I knew were always empty. I looked around and, sure enough, found Annabeth sadly eating her ravioli. I sneaked up to her and squeezed her sides with my fingers. She have a surprised yelp.
"Oh, hey Piper." She said, quietly.
"Hi!" I answered, snaking around her and sitting down. "What's up?"
She shrugged. "Nothing much."
I glared at her suspiciously, but she wasn't looking so I dropped it.
"Math was pretty tough today, wasn't it?" I chuckled awkwardly, trying to start up a conversation.
She shrugged. "Not really."
Ugh! What is up with this girl??
"So did you like the movie?" I tried again.
She shrugged. Again. "Sure I guess."
"What was your favorite part?"
Suddenly she looked up and glared at me.
"Piper." She said. "Can't you see that I'm not in the mood for conversing right now?"
I lurched my head back. "Oh. Okay."
She went back to her lunch, but she wasn't actually eating. I sat there and sighed before digging in to mine.
The bell rang and I stood up. "What do you have next?" I asked Annabeth.
"Um, history." She answered.
"Cool." She said. "Hey I was thinking, do you think you could come over today, just me and you, and hang out or something?"
Fear keeps into her eyes. "Um, no. I can't stay out too late anymore." And she ran off.
I stood there for a moment. "Was it something I said?" I wondered out loud.
Then I shrugged and headed over to my next class.
Annabeth POV
I felt really bad. I just ran out on Piper after being invited over. Of course, I could never accept because Hera already beat me enough last night for being out without telling her. I don't know what she would do if I had done it again.
After history, which was incredibly boring, I started to walk to my locker to drop off my books, she I tripped over something and fell down hard. I grunted and heard snickering behind me. I turned around to see Octavian, a girl called Clarisse, and this guy called Kronos (I don't even know know😂) laughing behind me.
"You loser!" Laughed Kronos.
I sat up and scooted back.
"What are you guys doing?" I asked.
They laughed but didn't answer. Then Kronos kicked my chest, throwing me back a few feet.
"Your such a wuss." Said Clarisse as they walked away.
I slowly sat up and rubbed my head. After brushing myself off, I headed to the locker.
I his my head behind the door to hide the salty tears running down my cheek.
