Chapter 18 - Planning the future

Ivy's POV:

Phil had gone to bed, which left Dan and I cuddled up on the sofa watching TV. He had finally gotten over the shock about the baby and we had settled down for the night. "Hey Ivy?". "Hmm?". I was too tired to even respond properly. "I've been thinking, seeing as there is going to be the three of us now, maybe we should look into getting our own place?". My eyes suddenly lit up and I jumped up and looked at Dan with a beaming smile on my face. "Are you serious?". He chuckled and placed his hand on my cheek. "Of course I am! Neither of us really have a place suitable for a baby, and I think we need something bigger and more homely." I pulled Dan into a huge hug and cuddled up to him. "That sounds perfect!". Dan sighed a huge sigh of relief. "Well that's good because I kind of already have a place set up for us." I looked at him with a puzzled look on my face. How was this possible? He only found out that I was pregnant a few hours ago. "What do you mean?". "Well, my friend Kieran bought a house with his ex girlfriend, and their relationship ending up failing, and he wants to sell the house so he can move back with his parents for a bit before getting a smaller place. So I told him that we would be interested and we'll get it for a great price." I couldn't help but smile. My boyfriend had actually gone to all this effort for me and our baby. "When did you plan all this then?". "Literally a few hours ago when you were in the shower." He laughed and continued to stroke my cheek. "Well I think that's a brilliant idea." Dan lifted me off the sofa and held me in his arms. "I can't wait until the baby comes and we have our perfect little family". The fact he was actually saying this made me so happy. I had the best boyfriend in the world.

Dan's POV:

A month had passed since me and Ivy moved into Kieran's old place and it was brilliant! There was plenty of room for us, and the baby would have a perfect bedroom for when they were a little older. Leah had ended up selling the apartment and moving into what was mine and Phil's and I couldn't be happier for them. Ivy was out that day with Leah having some girly time and I was left at our house. I called Phil over and made him help me decorate what would be the new baby's room. I wanted it to be perfect for Ivy when she got home. Leah was in on the plan, so she knew not to let Ivy come home until I told her that it was okay to. I heard the doorbell ring and opened it to see Phil standing there with his old clothes on, ready to get stuck in. "So what colour are you thinking of doing the baby's rom then? Seeing as you don't know if it's going to be a girl or a boy." "Well, I thought something natural, if the room is basic then as soon as he or she comes along, we can accessorise then." I sounded like such a woman, planning my baby's bedroom, but I was so excited to become a dad. "Okay cool, so what do you want me to do?". I handed him a tin of cream paint and told him to begin to paint the walls. I headed into the garage to grab the things I had been hiding from Ivy. There was a cot, a moses basket, some drawers and some toys. I had been buying lots of things for the baby, and had to be so secretive. I'm surprised that she hadn't caught on to what I was doing!.

After about 5 hours, everything was pretty much done. The furniture had been built, the walls were painted and the room looked amazing. The cot was white with some mint green sheets and blankets in, seeing as that could be used for a boy or girl. Then all the white drawers had been built and all the toys and things had been put in place. There was still quite a lot to be bought, but I wanted Ivy to have an input too. I smiled to myself and felt Phil's presence behind me. "The room looks amazing mate, and Ivy will love it!". "Yeah I hope so." I asked Phil if he wanted a drink and he was quick to reply with a nod. We went downstairs and I poured us both a beer and we headed into the lounge together. "Phil, can you do me a big favour?". "Sure mate, anything." "Well, could you talk to Leah about planning a baby shower for Ivy? I know she probably wouldn't want the fuss but I want to surprise her. She will love it, and we need to make sure everyone is there." Phil smiled and I could see how excited he was. He loved parties, no matter what it was for!. "Yeah of course! When do you want to have it?"  "About 2 or 3 weeks if possible". Phil jumped up in excitement and pulled me into a hug. I was so lucky to have him as a best friend. After being crushed by Phil's hug, he eventually sat back down and we began to discuss Ivy's birthday which was next month. "So, what have you got planned then?". I smiled to myself. I was going to keep this a secret from everyone, but I couldn't not tell Phil. He was my best friend. "Well, don't tell anyone, not even Leah. But i'm planning to take her out for a meal and propose to her." I could see the shock and pure joy on Phil's face. He was like a small child on Christmas morning! "Oh my god, Dan! I can't believe it! This is amazing!" We sat and began to talk about everything baby related, and also wedding plans and I couldn't help but smile at how great my life was now. I pulled out my phone and text Leah, telling her it was okay to bring Ivy home now. I couldn't wait to see the look on her face..

Ivy's POV:

After a day of shopping with Leah I was glad to finally be heading home. I loved spending time with her but I was knackered! I had no idea why she was so determined to keep me out all day. We finally reached the house and I pulled out my key to unlock the door. I could tell Leah was hiding something. She was so easy to read. But I decided to keep quiet and not question her. As we entered the house I was greeted by Dan who pulled me into an enormous hug before gently kissing my lips. "Hey, how was your day? Have fun shopping?". I took of my coat and shoes whilst answering Dan's question. "Yeah was good thanks, how was your day?". "Quite busy actually, come with me." Dan took my hand a lead me up the stairs. He pulled me towards what would be the baby's room and instructed me to go inside. I opened the door and couldn't believe what I saw. The room had been fully decorated and looked absolutely beautiful! I held my hand to my mouth trying not to cry. I began to walk around the room analysing everything I saw. I walked over to the cot and placed my hands on the side and just started into it. Dan came over and wrapped his arms around my waist resting his head on my shoulder. "Just think, in a few months our little munchkin will be all snuggled up in there." I turned around and kissed Dan on the lips and ran my fingers through his hair. "This is perfect honestly. I cannot believe how amazing the room looks." He held me in his arms and we both just stood there staring at the cot. Neither of us could wait until the baby was here.

Dan's POV

Today was the day of Ivy's surprise baby shower. Phil and I had decided to have it at the apartment, because Ivy wouldn't be at all suspicious. I had told her that we were going over to hang out with Leah and Phil for a bit and then head out to dinner. She didn't argue and was upstairs getting ready. I received a text from Leah saying that everyone had arrived, so I needed to hurry Ivy up. "Babe, are you almost done?" I shouted up the stairs. "Yeah, I'm now coming!". I stood by the front door with my hands in my pockets waiting for her to come down the stairs. I looked up and there she was. She looked incredible. She was wearing her leggings with a lovely t-shirt and her black wedges. She wasn't even dressed up, but she just looked amazing. Her bump was starting to show more and more now, and this just made her look even more incredible. "What are you staring at?". She laughed whilst putting on her jacket. "Just how amazingly beautiful you are." I just started at her as she giggled and gently hit my arm. "Come on, we're already late." We headed out the door and began to walk down the street hand in hand towards Phil's apartment.

Ivy's POV

We finally reached the apartment and I was excited to spend some time with Phil and Leah. We hadn't gone out together in ages, and I have to say, I was starving! I had some weird cravings and was always hungry. I'm pretty sure it would annoy Dan when I would wake him up at 3am saying that I fancied a sausage and egg sandwich. He would always go and make me one though, no matter what time of the day. I couldn't ask for a better boyfriend. Dan knocked on the door and Phil was quick to open it. "Hey guys, come in!". I hugged Phil and headed into the lounge area. "SURPRISE!". I was shocked to see so many people sitting in the lounge, all holding a present in their hands. "Wait, what is this?". I looked at Dan in shock. "It's your baby shower". I almost cried. I had no idea that this was planned, but I was so happy. Everyone was there! Jack, Finn, Marcus, Alfie, Chris, PJ, Louise, Zoe, Sam, Louis, Oli, literally everyone!. I was about to go and speak to everyone when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around expecting to see Dan, but I couldn't believe what I saw. "Mum..? Dad..?" I felt a lump in my throat. They didn't seem too pleased when I first told them that I was pregnant, but here they were at my baby shower. "I..I thought you were mad at me?". My mum suddenly pulled me into a huge hug. "Well, I can't say that I was overly thrilled when we heard the news, but you're an adult now, and I know how much you love Dan. And i'm happy for you." I began to cry into my mums shoulder. I never dreamed that she would be this accepting. I eventually pulled away from my mum and headed over to the sofa with Dan, where we were bombarded with presents from everyone. We received so many lovely things! Toys, clothes, nappies, and so many essential things that we needed. "You guys are all awesome, thank you so much!". We went on to eat lots of food, and I managed to speak to everyone before me and Dan had to head back home with all of our stuff. We phoned for a cab and after piling all of the stuff into the back, we headed home. This was honestly one of the best days of my life.
