I woke up to my alarm blaring annoyingly. I opened my eyes and remembered the date. December 17. My birthday. My eighteenth birthday to be exact. I removed my phone from its charger and put on my shirt that said, "KEEP CALM IT'S MY BIRTHDAY". I opened the Instagram app and took a selfie, making sure to get my shirt, and posted it. I brought my phone into the bathroom with me to play music while I showered. When I was done, I checked my phone again and saw that I already had 20 likes. The first comment and like was Milly.Evs.12.

Milly.Evs.12 Happy birthday, love! <3 XD

I smiled to myself and got dressed in my birthday shirt again, some black joggers and a jacket. I ran downstairs and saw my dad eating cereal, drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. He looked up from his article and gave me a proud smile.

"Happy Birthday, Don. Here, catch." he said, before tossing me a red box. I opened it and saw a piece of paper inside. I unfolded it and it said, "I sold your car". I looked back at my father who was dying of laughter.

"Thanks for the gift, Dad." I really meant it. I am glad to see him listening to me. I walked into the kitchen to get an apple. I checked the clock hanging on the wall, and it said it was 7:30. "Gotta go."

"Bye, son. I scheduled your birthday dinner at Cheddar's and invited Millicent, her sister and I think his name was Michael," he stated. Oh, yay. My girlfriend's family meeting my father. Let's hope this turns out well.

"Bye," I said, going out the front door and speed-walking to the bus stop.

When I got to River Oaks, I began walking to the commons and was immediately bombarded by Tyler. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and walked with me.

"Happy Birthday, buddy! Party at my place or yours?" he asked. It was Friday, but what was with this kid and parties?

"Thanks and no can do, dude. I've got plans."

"Aww, c'mon. Really?" he whined. "What kind of plans?"

"Eighteenth birthday plans," I answered vaguely. He removed his arm from my shoulder and rolled his eyes.

"I guess I'll just have to throw a party in your honor," he said with a fake sadness. I was about to reply with a snarky comment when someone jumped on my back. The someone began peppering kisses on my neck. Milly.

"Happy birthday, Don." she whispered in my ear. I smiled and she got off my back to give me a tight hug.

"Thanks, Milly." I said and all three of us walked to the commons together.

As soon as I stepped foot on the pavement, I was greeted with happy birthdays and questions about my celebration plans. I sneaked away to an empty hallway and leaned against the wall. I closed my eyes and two seconds later, Milly was pulling me into the custodian's closet. She clicked on the light and gave me a smile.

"I thought you'd never escape," she whispered. I put my hands on her waist and pulled her closer to me.

"Me neither," I whispered back. I pulled her even closer, her forehead touching mine.

"What do you want for your birthday?" she asked. I shrugged my shoulders. I didn't really have anything I wanted. Except for her with me, I thought. She wrapped her arms around my neck and touched my nose with hers.
