I love Basset Hounds 😊

~Donovan~

"Do you really think that they're going to come?" I asked her, sitting on one of the chairs in the small music store she worked at.

"I told them it was a serious emergency," she replied. "So there's like a 40% chance they actually listen or read my text.

I chuckled and watched her gaze at the instruments. She sat at a piano and started playing a song. It was familiar, but I didn't know the title. I didn't truly recognize the music until she started humming.

"Milly?" I asked.

"Hmm?" she replied, stopping the song and repeating it from the beginning. As her fingers moved across the keys, the necklace that I bought for her moved back and forth.

"What song is this?"

"It doesn't have a name yet... Or an ending... Or words."

"What's it about?" I asked, sitting on the piano bench next to her.

"New beginnings. Very cliche, I know, but I think it kind of fits our current situation."

I was about to say something else when Maddy and her husband walked in with their sleepy kids resting their heads on their shoulders.

"What's with the 911 text?" Maddy asked.

"Can't tell you until everyone's here."

Over the course of 20 minutes, everyone came. Ashley and Tyler, hand in hand; Emily by herself; My dad and his obnoxious girlfriend. Everybody.

"What's going on?" Ashley asked. "Is this it?"

We nodded and Emily sighed in relief. "You guys were scaring me."

"Wait, you guys know what's happening?" Ty asked. "What is it?"

"If you guys would shut up, we could actually tell you," Milly interrupted, making everyone go silent. "Don, care to explain?"

"I'll try my hardest to form a coherent sentence, but don't expect too much. Um, crap. Where to begin? So, um... You guys all know that Mill and I are back together and better and even better than before." Mill grabbed my hand and squeezed tightly. "This was a huge surprise to both of us, but we're extremely happy about it."

"Spit it out, son," my dad sighed impatiently.

I rolled my eyes. "Milly and I are... Well, Milly's..."

"Good god, Donovan," Milly interrupted. "We're having a baby and yes, I'm the one who is pregnant, so Tyler, you can get rid of all your 'my best friend is with child!' jokes right now."

Madison immediately screeched and gave us all hugs.

"Fair enough," Tyler laughed. "Jesus, Donny-boy! A kid."

I nodded and my smile got as wide as his. "So, dad... What do you think?"

He was silent for a while before responding. "I think that I feel exultant, but I don't know how to express it."

"Well, don't cry. That's gonna make this even weirder."

"Am I supposed  to hug you guys? I don't know how to deal with this type of information," he chuckled.

"Well, how did you tell Grammy and Granddad about me?"

"Your mom and I took them out to dinner, they asked why she looked so fat, Grammy dropped her glass, and they yelled at us for a little bit."
