Today was different to the bright shiny days before, clouds obscured the sky and blocked out the light.

"C'mon Shota, today were going to the park." My father had told me with a smile on his face. These past few days my father had been smiling a lot to me lately, but it was a kind of strained smile. I think he probably didn't realize he was doing it.

"But it's raining Dad!" I had said looking out the window.

"It'll be fun."

"Now wait here Shota while Daddy takes care of something." He set me down on a bench and gave off anothrr strained smile.

"Ok." Was all I said and he ruffled my hair.

"Good boy, now just stay here." With one last strained smile he turned and walked away.

I didn't plead, beg or whine at him to stay or take me with him. I just looked at his back until he faded from view and waited. Looking at the raindrops, I realized all those strained smiles and awkward moments had been leading up to this.

And that was when I had grasped the fact that,

I was alone.

I'm sleeping in a dank alley when I'm abruptly shaken awake. I look up into the eyes of a crinkly old man.

"Are you alone my boy?" He asks solemnly.

"Yes." I look at him.

"Isn't there anyone to care for you?" He asks worried.
