"Leighleigh! Wake up!" Jojo said.
"What?" I yawned.
"We've been pranked!" Jojo exclaimed in a whisper.
"We what now?" I said, rubbing my eyes.
"We. Have. Been. Pranked. Does that make sense? Earth to Leighleigh?" Jojo asked.
"By who?" I asked.
"Well probably cabin 6. Duh," Jojo said.
"Right. What's our revenge gonna be then, captain?" I asked.
"We'll figure that out. You slept through the alarm though, so get up. It's about 6:10," Jojo said. I sat up and put on my slippers. I followed Jojo outside. There was shaving cream all over the side of the cabin and on the shower house walls. Kenny was at the side of the cabin, wiping off the shaving cream with a handful of paper towels. Martin was by the shower house, carrying a bowl of water.
"About time. Come help me out, Leighanne," Martin said. I nodded and watched him splash the bowl of water on the wall of the shower house.
"Go get another bowl from the kitchen and fill it and help me!" he said.
"Right," I said. I rushed into the cabin and grabbed a bowl. I tried to turn on the sink but it was broken. So, I filled it up in the spigot by the cabin where we got most of our water. I splashed it against the shower house wall. The shaving cream washed onto the ground where Martin kicked some dirt over it. We were all able to finish cleaning by 6:20. I quickly showered and got dressed before Evelyn came. The day went by in a whiz. I was so tired from archery and survival and our prank that I hardly even remembered our self defense. At least I was able to stay awake for survival where we learned about fire.
"We will be using real flint and steel to make real fire, so be very careful. We will also learn how to put it out," Evelyn said, "First, let's talk building. Anyone know how?"
"You can put your dry wood in a teepee shape and use dry pine needles and bark and paper for tinder to keep it warm," Kenny said.
"Very good," Evelyn said, "Now, let's talk putting out a fire. Anyone know how?"
"Water, obviously," Jojo said.
"Yes, but there are other ways," Evelyn said, "especially when water is so much more of a necessity."
"Cover it," I said, "Like with a pot or something."
"Good, but there is another way," Evelyn said, "It's burrying it in dirt or sand. Now, let's talk containing a fire. That is important because otherwise everything around could burn and start a forest fire maybe. Any ideas?"
"Build a ring of stones around it," Jojo said.
"Very good. What else?" Evelyn asked.
"Keep flamable objects away," I said.
"Very good, and keep the flame inside of the ring," Evelyn finished, "Now, let's talk making fire. Any ideas?"
"Flint and steel," I said.
"Good, but you aren't always lucky enough to have flint and steel," Evelyn said, "What else."
"Magnifying glass and sunlight," Jojo said.
"Rubbing sticks together," Kenny said.
"There you go. That's it," Evelyn said, "And I'm gonna teach you all how to do that. So follow me. We have a fire making site." We all got up and followed Evelyn to four stone circles and a shed. Evelyn opened the shed and got some dry wood for us. She gave us all several logs.
"Build first," she said. I put one big log on it's taller end and stacked the other ones around it in a teepee shape. Evelyn showed us how to use flint and steel. I cracked the flint and steel together and watched the spark go to the log stack to create fire.
"Now, let's put this fire out. Grab some dirt and barry the flame," Evelyn said. I scooped some dirt into my hands and dropped it on the flame.
"Faster, Leighanne," Evelyn said, "Slow down, Jojo.Your flame is already out. Be more careful, Kenny. Go even faster, Martin, before the dirt slips out faster." I knew she was refering to his missing fingers which made him go faster and successfully put the fire out. I quickened my pace and my flame was quickly out. Evelyn showed us how to use a paper and magnifying glass and to rub sticks together to make fire. We then all ate dinner and when we arrived at our cabin, Kenny announced, "I have an idea."
