"I'm confused. What exactly do you want to do?" Jojo asked.
"Put some spicy candies in their food," Kenny repeated for what was probably the fifth time, "Come on. It'll be so hilarious!"
"Yeah, but we would get caught!" Martin insisted.
"But what if we went now? None of them would notice and it would work out perfectly!" Kenny urged.
"I don't think you thought this through," I said.
"Leighleigh's right," Jojo agreed, "Firstly, do you realize how close together the 'staff only' room and the cafeteria are together? They are literally next door!"
"Yeah, but the counselors will all be asleep!" Kenny argued.
"Secondly, the cafeteria staff probably haven't even made the food yet. And if they have, that's the same food that we will eat!" Jojo argued. Kenny started to talk, but Jojo didn't let him.
"Thirdly, that's a very wide open space. Out here in the woods, our footprints won't be visible because of the pine needles. Over there, it's a flat, dusty surface. Our footprints will be everywhere!"
"What are you some stealth expert now?" Kenny argued.
"Yes. In fact, I've done more successful pranks than probably all of you combined have!" Jojo argued, raising her voice into a shout.
"Sh!" Martin said in a half whisper, "We have to be quiet! But Jojo is also right. There is the whole taking it too far issue. That prank is just too risky, too big, and there's just too many things that could go wrong. We have to rethink it."
"True," Kenny admitted, "I guess you guys are right."
"The idea of having someone unknowingly consume spicy candy is a good start," Jojo said, "We just have to rethink it. Then it will work and be totally hilarious. Any ideas? What's something they will consume that is both possible to put spicy candies in without anyone noticing and that we won't be consuming ourselves?"
"The emergency food?" I suggested.
"Good, but there is no real guarentee that they will consume it," Jojo said, "What else."
"Water," Kenny said.
"What do you mean?" Jojo asked.
"You know the spigot next to the cabins that is the only source of filtered water for that cabin?" he asked.
"Yeah," Jojo nodded.
"It's like a sink, so there is a little net ring around the part where is comes out to conserve water or something," Kenny said.
"You mean the air filter?" I asked.
"Yeah. The air filter," Kenny continued, "We go to their camp, take the air filter off their spigot, put some spicy candies in there, and put it back on. Then, the next day, they will turn it on probably for a drink of water and since the spicy candy will be in there, the water will be super spicy and they will hate it and it will be super funny."
"Not bad," Jojo approved, "Hands up if you're in."
Everyone, including me, raised their hands up.
"Great," Jojo said, "Go get ready."
I got up and changed into a white tank top with black leggings which I was using as my pajamas. I put on my jacket and my shoes and I met everyone by the door. Jojo had already crushed the candies with a knife in the kitchen and put it in an empty matchbox we found in the trash.
"Let's make another prayer to the prank gods," Jojo said, "Would anyone else like to lead?"
"I'll do it," Kenny offered. We all stood in a circle and looked up at the sky.
"Dear Prank Gods," he said, "Please be on our side this evening as we pull an epic revenge prank on cabin 6. Please keep us from getting caught and please guide us to success. We thank you for our leader, Jojo. We thank you for the prank kit. And we thank you for this prankster team. Thank you and amen."
"Amen," we all said together.
"Alright, team. Let's go," Jojo said.
We all followed Jojo through the woods by the same route we took when we did our first prank. I kept my eyes peeled for anyone who could see us. I heard only light footsteps of my friends around me. Then I heard quicker, heavier footsteps nearby, heading in our direction.
"Heads," I whispered. That was kind of our code word for 'someone is coming'.
"Guys?" I heard a new, female voice ask with confusion. I spun around to face the voice, my heart beating, hoping it wasn't Courtney. But it wasn't Courtney who had seen us.
"What are you doing?" the voice said. My heart went into my mouth and I blinked in disbelief.
It was Evelyn.
