Chapter 25

They flame into the penthouse together. Colette stands there in shock staring at Cole.
"Cole look.. It's not that I don't appreciate what you did back there and all.."
Cole sighs "But.. There's a big but there isn't there?."
She nods "But I've been thinking a lot and all this is gonna be much harder than I thought and all that back there isn't going to fix things."

He nodded "Don't you think I don't know that? It's a start though right?."

She shrugs "I guess so.. It's just.."

He steps towards her "It's just what?.."

She sits down with a sigh. "In the future I tried everything and even though I came back here to try and fix everything I realised that if I did manage to change anything..."

Cole puts his hands on both her arms to comfort her. "Hey whatever happens happens okay?... Carry on with what you were saying."

She bites her lip. "If I did manage to change anything then when I return back to the future I'll remember everything we went through."

He hugs her and whispers in her ear. "Everything is going to be okay I promise."
Colette groans "You can't promise that Cole and you were never that good on promises." She laughs half heartedly.

She added "I don't blame you anymore Cole for what happened in the future and I can't blame you for actions that haven't even happened yet."

He pushes her back slightly so that his face is in her field of vision. "I understand what you went through but you can't ask me to change."

She nodded solemnly "I know that.. That's what I learned in the first place when I was in the future but I tried I really did.. I left you but you tried everything to get me back which made it even harder."

He shrugged "I'm a demon what do you expect."
She laughs falsely "I know but you do have a human side as well which means you must have a heart somewhere.

He laughs "I do.. Haven't I shown that since you arrived?."

She sighs unsure how to answer that. "Hmm yeah sort of .. Kind of.."

He frowns at her. "What do you mean kind of?!"

She splutters nervously. "Well you didn't exactly give me a nice warm welcome from the start.."

He looks at her sadly. "Okay you've got me there.. That is true but I didn't know who you was.. Surely you can forgive me for that."

She nodded. "I've been doing a lot of that lately..Cole ever since my breakdown. I've been angry at you.. I don't think I can do all this anymore."

He frowns. "What are you saying?."

She looks away from him barely able to look him in the eye. "I'm saying maybe it's time to go back to the future."

His heart sank suddenly "But..but.. I thought you wanted to get back together and fix things."

She nodded with a tear in her eye. "I do but it's like you said Cole.. I can't change you."

He sighs accepting defeat. "What are you gonna do when you get back?."

She shrugs. "I'm just gonna have to accept it all aren't I?.. I've tried everything to fight this and now I'm gonna have to accept that your a demon and this is all happening.. I'm gonna be stuck in a trapped state where if I leave.. Let's say people end up in danger if I even attempt that.."
