Chapter ten

The entire trip was dead silence. When we got to Walmart, we set up camp inside and Rachel and Katelynn scoped it out outside. I followed them to make sure nothing happened to them.
Rachel: I really hope Katie's gonna be okay. She hasn't spoken to any of us since you-know-what happened.
Katelynn: Yea, I'm kinda worried.
Rachel: Same. Thanks to Austin, Katie could be broken right now and we wouldn't even know...
They stop when they hear something coming from the left of them. I stop too and watch them carefully and listen carefully. Then they both gasp and starting running towards me. I run toward the entrance and they follow close behind and lock the door and board it up.
Zek: What happened out there?
Arianna: What's wrong?
Katelynn: Mutants.... Everywhere.... Outside.... They're coming... I'm out of breath.....
Rachel: Block... All the doors... And the windows....
Austin: Got it.
Rachel: Why are you out of breath Katie?
Katie: I was doing my usual workout.
Rachel: I see.
Just then something appeared out of nowhere inside of the Walmart, and scared the living daily lights out of Rachel. Something that looked human but we weren't sure, so we pointed our guns at it. It was Arthur. We put our guns down and just stared at him. Rachel on the other hand was furious. She went to hit him but he blocked it and she fell to the floor. She got up and shape shifted into a wolf and growled. But Arthur was somehow able to shape shift too. He turned into a wolf as well, and they started going at it but soon after Arianna broke it up.
Arianna: Stop it!!!!
They both transformed back into themselves, and Arianna gave Arthur the biggest hug I've ever seen her give anyone.
Zek: How the hell did you do that?
Arthur: Do what?
Rachel: Your powers! How did you get them!?
Arthur: Well let's see, I fell in this big crack in the ground and someone gave them to me.
Austin: What powers do you have?
Arthur: I think I have teleportation and shape shifting. Where are Jacob and Dalton? Did they not make it?
We all looked down in silence.
Katie: They got kidnapped by a mysterious voice and we don't know who it is. We were on our way to DC when we stopped here to set up camp.
Arthur: I didn't even know you guys were here first of all. Second of all, why did you board all the doors up? And what's that noise?
The mutants started attacking the doors and the windows. We all jumped up and made sure the boards were secure so they couldn't get through. Katelynn used her earth element to make branches so they blocked all the possible entrances. We finally relaxed and sat down by the fire we made.
Arthur: So how did you guys get your powers?
Rachel: We got them the same way you did. The person who gave us ours is our "guardian angel". What about you?
Arthur: I asked mine and he said he was my guardian angel too.
Zek: You see!? He's a wizard!!
We all laugh. Except me, I just smile and think to myself, 'What is this boys logic?'.
Austin: Here we go again.
Arthur: You really think so?
Zek: Well yeah, I mean think about it. He gave us superpowers, he shows up whenever he wants, and he sounds like a wizard.
Arthur: Makes sense.
I shake my head.
Rachel: Okay, enough chit chat. Let's get some food and make dinner.
We all went separate ways as I went to the cold section and got fruits and veggies. Rachel went to the dry food section and got beans, bread, and other stuff. Arianna went to the freezer section and got pizza and chicken strips. Austin and katelynn went over to the cooking aisle and supplies area. We all got back at the same time with all the stuff we needed to make dinner.

While Katelynn and Arianna made dinner, I went over to one of the windows and was deep in thought when Zek walked over to me. You can imagine that I walked away like usual, but I didn't...
Zek: Hi babe...
Katie: Do not call me that. Not anymore.
Zek: Okay, I just wanna say that I'm sorry for hurting you and you having to find out from Austin. I'm sorry for not being a good boyfriend and keeping my mouth shut. I'm sorry for all the pain I've caused you. I'm sor...
Katie: Okay okay, that's enough. I get it. I forgive you, but don't think that just because we're friends again, it means we're gonna get back together. We're not.
Zek: Okay, I understand. Thank you for accepting my apology.
Katie: You're welcome, now can you go away so I can think?
Zek: Yea...
Katie: Thank you.
He left, and I just sat there deep in thought again. 'Why does this shit always happen to me?'
I got up and decided to walk around the store for a little bit, and I could feel someone following me. I chose to ignore it though because I knew it would either be Zek or Austin. Sooner or later though, I turned around and it was actually Rachel.
Katie: What do you want boo?
Rachel: I just wanna make sure you're okay...
She ran up beside me and we walked together.
Rachel: Are you okay?
Katie: Yea, I'm fine...
Rachel: Katie, I know when you're lying. Talk to me. Tell me what's wrong.
Katie: That's the problem. I don't know what's wrong. Ever since I was in first grade, I have been asking myself a question that I still don't have an answer to. What's the purpose of living? No ones been able to tell me because no ones me hurt or worried. But what they don't know is, I worry and hurt every single fucking day. Reasons being, nobody knows except me.
Rachel just looked down not knowing how to respond. We heard katelynn call our names and we walked back to the camp.
Katelynn: Dinners ready. Grab a plate.
She had made pizza and vegetables for tonight.
Arianna: Eat up, we have a long day ahead of us.
So we all ate in silence.
Katie: Omg! I missed you pizza!!
I dug in and everyone just laughed.

But then the laughter broke. We heard something... Something that didn't sound too good. We all stood up and got our guns. We searched the entire store but nothing. Then I heard a scream. It was Rachel!!! I ran as fast as I could with my super speed and got there before anyone else did. She was lying on the floor. She didn't look like she'd been harmed or anything like that. Then I looked over to my right and saw what looked like...
Rachel: BABE!!!!!
Katie: JACOB!!!!
We both run up and hug the shit out of him. He looked like he had to fight an army to get here. He was all covered in blood. Rachel must've screamed when he teleported inside and scared the fuck out of her. 'People should really stop scaring her.' Moments later Zek, Austin, Arianna, Katelynn, and Arthur showed up and hugged him.
Rachel: I'm so glad you're okay!!!!
Jacob: Why wouldn't I be? I'm me.
Rachel: True.
Katie: What happened?
Ari: Where's Dalton?
Jacob: I escaped with my hands but it took me a while to find you guys. And I'm pretty sure Daltons dead. I tried to get him out but they were coming so I had to get out of there.
Arianna started crying and Arthur comforted her.
Jacob: And since when did Arthur join the group?
Zek: About two hours ago.
Jacob: I see. How did he get in?
Rachel: It turns out he has powers too, and he used teleportation to get in here. He has the same power as you, and the same power as me. Shape shifting.
Katelynn: Okay, let's finish eating and get some rest. We've got a long day tomorrow.
So we all got sleeping bags and went to bed. But I couldn't sleep. My mind was too focused on something else.
