Chapter Thirty-One

John gave me a strange look and collected his thoughts. He nodded and walked back into the hospital room. He looked kind of confused but came back with her dad. Who still had that tough look on his face.

"John said you needed to ask me something." He said crossing his arms over his chest.

"Yea uh," I was trying to find the right words to say. "Sir I want to ask you for your permission to marry Gracie." He cocked an eyebrow at me and seemed to be thinking how to respond.

"You know Liam," he said in a stern voice. I cringed, ready for him to ban me from ever seeing her again. I wouldn't blame him either. "I've been waiting for you to ask me that for sometime." He said cracking a smile. "I think you make my little girl happy and that's all I've ever wanted for her. And you're a pretty good guy." He said putting a hand on my arm.

"I don't plan on asking until she gets better and everything calms down a bit." He nodded, completely understanding. "Um I'm gonna go get her something but I'll be right there." I didn't want to be away from her anymore but I had to get her something.

*Gracie's POV*

"You look happy." I said to dad as he sat in his previous seat. He smiled even bigger.

After that the room got quiet. We were all watching the football game that was almost over. It didn't take long before Liam finally came back. I could feel the smile on my face getting bigger. Mom nudged Luke and tilted her head toward the door. Dad seemed to pick up the que.

"Geez I'm feeling kinda hungry." He said in a monotonous tone. He's such a bad actor. "Aren't you kids?" He said directing the question at Luke and John. John nodded but Luke didn't seem to catch it.

"I'm ok actually." He said shrugging. Dad decided to embarrass him and throw him over his shoulder. John laughed and followed them out.

"Don't reinjure your shoulder." Mom said, kissing my cheek. She winked before she started walking towards the door. I was confused by her statement until she turned around and winked.

"Oh gross mom." I said turning to Liam. He had a smile on his face but was blushing. He had a bag in one hand.

"Hey." I said quietly as he sat down. He leaned over and kissed my cheek then my forehead and worked his way down to my lips.

"I got to you something." He said reaching into the bag. He knew me so well.

"You sir, are amazing." I said as he handed me the little box with the McDonald's logo on the top. Chicken nuggets, my favorite.

"Eat quick. The docs don't want you eating anything not hospital approved." He said smiling. "How are you feeling?"

"A lot better now that I've eaten." He laughed as I shoved another nugget into my mouth. We chatted about everything and nothing but were interrupted by a doctor knocking on the door. Liam got flustered and took the box that was now almost empty and threw it back in the bag. They doctor stepped in just as he grabbed the nugget that I was holding and shoving it into his mouth. He leaned his elbow in the bed and put his head in his hand trying look inoccent.

I'm almost positive the doctor saw but chose to ignore it. After he checked everything, he told me I could be discharged at the end of the week.

"I got you something else." Liam said after had finished the few nuggets that I had left.

"Did I ever tell you that you are the sweetest boyfriend in the world?" I said smiling at him.

"It's come up a few times." He said smiling as he reached into the bag again. His smile turned devilish as he pulled out a stuffed animal. It was an elephant! My favorite animal. It was absolutely precious! It had a big bow around its neck and a rose was pinned to his chest.

"He's so cute!" I said throwing my good arm around his neck. He was surprised but wrapped his arms around my torso.

I missed how his arms felt around me. The smell of his cologne. Everything about him I loved.

"Can I ask a favor of you?" I asked quietly, still holding my face in his chest.

"Anything." He answered, gently squeezing me.

"Never let me go." I said pulling myself closer into his chest.

"Never." I felt him kiss my head and hold me tighter
