*Gracie's POV*

"Liam, you look exhausted. Why don't you go get some tea?" I heard my mother say in her usual gentle, concerned voice. Liam insisted on staying with me, but my mother gently urged him to go. The door open and quietly closed as he walked out.

My family continued to converse around me. Talking about little things like the weather or the football game that was on TV.

I could feel my mom's gentle touch as she pushed my hair behind my ears and undid some of the knots with her fingers. She continued running her fingers through my hair, just like she did when I was a kid.

*Flashback*

"Mommy I'm scared." I said standing in the doorway of my parents bedroom clutching my stuffed bunny tightly to my chest. Mum slowly sat up and walked over to me, crouching beside me.

"What's wrong baby?" She said hoisting me up onto her hip.

"There was a scary storm." I said trying to explain myself.

"It's ok, you can sleep with mommy and daddy tonight." I felt myself sleepily smile as my head rested onto her shoulder. She set me down on the bed next to my now awake dad. He smiled and kissed my nose.

"Go to sleep kiddo." He said ruffling my hair. Mum got in next to me and starting running her fingers through my hair. She hummed lightly into my ear as I fell asleep, forgetting the nightmare that had woken me up.

*End of Flashback*

"I'm going to go have a word with Liam." Mom whispered and quietly walked out of the room. My father sat where my mom had. What was my mom going to say to Liam?"

I could picture my dad, sitting in the chair, leaning back with his arms crossed over his chest, trying to keep his calm composure. He sighed heavily.

"I remember when you would watch the football games with me and all you cared about was if the players were cute."

*Flashback*

"Oh score!" Dad yelled from the living room, cheerin in his team. I heard John's groans as his team fell farther behind. I walked out of my room and saw them leaning forward in anticipation.

"What's the score?" I said putting my legs under me, sitting on the couch.

"Two zero." My dad said smiling to my brothers disappointment. Suddenly John started cheering as his team scores a goal. The player that scored's picture popped up on the screen.

"He's pretty cute." I said. Being only fourteen, I really didn't care about the game itself.

*End of Flashback*

The sound of the door opening and closing pulled me out of my memories.

"He is a really great guy." My mom said, I could hear the smile in her voice. In glad Taft she likes Liam.

"I don't like him." Luke said trying to mock dad's intimidating voice.

"That's only because your girlfriend has his face plastered onto her wall." John replied without missing a beat. Luke scoffed. I laughed internally at their banter, they had always been this way.

It was only a moment later when a phone rang.

"Honey, who is it?" My mom said. She had taken up position on my left, opposite from my dad.

"It's the station, I have to take this." My dad said as he stepped out of the room. It wasn't long before he came back. "I have to go to the station for a while. Liam is coming with me." Why would Liam be coming with him? I heard my dad kiss mom goodbye and him saying goodbye to the boys. Before he left, he walked back over to my bed and kissed the tip of my nose. "Wake up soon kiddo."
