Chapter 7

Joe's POV:

After about 10 minutes of worrying, crying and phone calls, the doctor came out. "It was just her trying to breathe alone, it's a sign of improvement. She will wake up there's just no answer of when." He continued and our faces brightened with joy. "Can we go back in?" I asked impatient to see the love of my life. "Yes, when the rest of the doctors are finished. So when they all exit, just head in." "Thanks doc." Alice said as she shook his hand. They finally came out I headed in first. I saw her chest rising and falling slowly. I walked over to a chair at the bedside and intertwined our fingers. "Your breathing again! I knew you would. You're not doing it perfectly yet, but it takes time. Your parents are outside, and everyone sends their love. I don't know what I would do if I lost you. I need you in my life and I will be there for you." I heard a knock on the door and turned to see a tear stained cheeked Caspar.

He came in and sat beside me. "She's going to be alright mate." I said soothingly to him. "Is she?" "Yeah! One of her machines beeped quicker and we got sent out. But it means she's trying to breath alone." He smiled and looked over at her and stood up. "I'm so happy. I can't wait." he kissed her head and headed out to make some calls. I then fell asleep with my head on her bedside.

*The next morning*

I woke up to many people stood around the bed. "Mr Sugg. She is breathing alone. She will be waking up very soon." I stood up in shock. "My baby's going to wake up!" I kissed her head and sat back down. Her parents advised me to go home and change. Maybe eat or take a nap. They said they'd call me anything happened so I headed home. I had to stop by Caspar, Alfie and Charlotte's to grab my flat keys and the rest of my things. Alfie was still at the flat with Zoe when I opened the door. "Broseph! Why are you here?" Alfie looked at me and I shook my head. He knew about me and Charlotte and what happened and my sister didn't. "Erm well, I was at the hospital with Caspar because Charlotte was in a crash so I went to support him while we found out what happened." "Poor Charlotte! Did you know about this Alfie?"

"No, no! I didn't! How is she Joe? How is Caspar?" "They're good. Charlotte was in a coma for 3 weeks but, she's breathing alone now. She'll wake up soon. I told Caspar i'd grab some clothes for him." I ran to his room, grabbed him some clothes, put them in a bag and grabbed my stuff. "I'll call you if anything happens." I walked out and made my way to my apartment.

As I entered my apartment. I realised how messy it is. Last time I was here was 3 weeks ago before the party and I was rushing around trying to decide what to wear. I was meant to return the next night but I had stayed to look after Charlotte and fell asleep with her the next two nights then spent the past 3 weeks at the hospital and Caspar and Alfie's.

I got in the shower and then tried to sleep. But it didn't work. I just lay there for about an hour thinking about her, and our future. When she would wake up. I decided that sitting here wouldn't change anything so I decided to get changed and head back to the hospital. There I couldn't worry. It was just a matter of waiting.

I hopped into my car and drove to the hospital, when I arrived I was greeted by Charlotte's parents and Caspar. "We were just about to call you." Caspar said and I began to worry. I knew I should have come earlier. "Why?! What's happened?! Is Charlotte okay?!" "She's fine! Great in fact! She'll wake up within the next hour and we want you to be there." "Oh okay! I was worried. What are we waiting for?!" We headed back to her room and sat down to wait. "Ah okay Mr Sugg. Thanks for coming. I assume you heard the news?" "Yes, yes. It's great." "Well just to warn you, there's a chance that her memory will be affected, but I highly doubt it. Especially with you son. I mean she started breathing when she heard your voice."

There was a glimpse of worry in my mind until he finished what he said. "So maybe you should come in first when she wakes? It's most likely she'll remember you first." I nodded in understanding and he headed out. I reached for her hand and held it tight. "I love you. You know that right?" That was when I felt her grip tighten on my hand and I looked up. Her beautiful eyes fluttered open and her mom went to tell a doctor. "Joe?!" "I'm here, it's okay. Are you okay?" I stood up and kissed her passionately. "Yeah I'm okay. What happened?" "You were in an accident honey. 3 weeks ago. You've been in a coma, but you pulled through when you heard my voice."

"That's because I love you Joe Sugg. And I couldn't leave you could I. I love you too much." I kissed her again and hugged her tight. "I've missed you. Oh and Caspar and your parents are here. Do you want them to come in?" She nodded and I walked over to open the door. I was so ecstatic.

Charlotte's POV:

Joe walked over to the door and let 3 people in. They all walked over and I only recognised one of them. Caspar I think? Joe came over and intertwined our fingers. I whispered in his ear. "I thought my parents were here?" I asked him and he looked concerned. "These are your parents honey." "I only know Caspar. Please get rid of them?" He walked over and whispered something. I couldn't make it out but I guess he was just explaining. I saw a tear run down the lady's face. I felt bad but I just didn't recognise them.

They left and I began to talk to Caspar. "Are you okay? How do you feel?" "I'm okay i'm just a little confused and my head hurts." Joe came back to join us and put his hand on my leg. "It's okay. You'll probably remember them soon. They'll be back when you're ready." The doctor came in and spoke to me checking me and how I was. "Hopefully Miss Lee, you can go home by next week but for now how do you feel? Are you comfortable with these two? Do you remember them? "Yeah I just don't remember the other people who were in here. Joe said it was my parents and I felt bad I couldn't remember." "That's okay, sometimes that happens. You'll most likely remember them soon. You've only just woke up, but you should probably rest soon. I will come back later." "Thank you." He left us and we continued talking. Seeing if I recognised some people through names and photos. I remember more recent meets like Zoe and Alfie or people i'd seen not long before the crash like Caspar. Some I didn't recognise like my parents and older friends. But it could take time. And I had to accept that.

The doctor returned and Joe and Caspar had to leave but they'd be back when they could.

Joe's POV:

We were sent out so Charlotte could rest so I went to ask Charlotte's doctor about something. "Hi erm, Charlotte remembers people she met or saw recently and not people like old friends or her family. Is that a problem?" "Well that's long term memory loss. Sometimes, it's just a phase and sometimes it last forever." I looked down at the floor and spoke again. "Is there a way to find out? Can it continue? So like if she doesn't see me or Caspar for a while, she could forget us too?" I questioned him. "Unfortunately, there's no way to find out, we just have to wait. But it shouldn't continue. It's just because her brain was affected. But it has been fixed now." I sighed out in relief and thanked him. I walked towards the exit and left. I would return the next morning nonetheless.
