chapter three →
"Are you sure you don't want me to give you a ride?" Ashton asked Darcy yet again, this was probably the fifth time he had asked this morning, "No Ashton, Maxwell is picking me up." Darcy smiled while touching up her makeup and then walking over to get her bag.
Ashton was about to ask her another question but Darcy beat him to it. "Ash, everything is settled, stop whining." Darcy said, walking past him and over to the kitchen where she quickly got an apple.
Maxwell and Darcy had become an official couple when they both woke up entangled in each others arms that Saturday morning. They talked for a while and then realized their feelings were mutual. They had spend most of Sunday together as well, and now, Monday morning, he was picking her up for school.
She heard a loud noise from outside and looked through the window to see Maxwell's car. "Gotta go, love you." Darcy said before running out the door. She walked over to the car and got in. "Good morning." She smiled, "Good morning baby." He said and kissed her cheek, making her blush slightly.
"Good morning Darcy." A voice said from behind her in the car. She turned around just to see Luke was sitting comfortably in the backseat, smirking. "What are you doing here?" She asked him, groaning. "Relax, he needed a ride." Maxwell said, laying his hand on Darcy's thigh.
"Don't you have a car?" Darcy spat at him, "It broke down." He spat back. "How do you two not kill each other in those tutoring sessions." Maxwell laughed. "Wait how did you know I tutor him?" Darcy furrowed her eyebrows and looked at Maxwell. She most certainly did not tell him, "The whole school knows." He said while stopping the car, since they arrived at school.
They all got out of Maxwell's car, Luke walking off immediately to some other friends. Maxwell walked over to Darcy and grabbed her hand in his, and then gave her a quick peck on the lips. "You ready?" He asked, Darcy nodded.
They walked in to the school building together, holding hands. Some people turned around to look at them, other girls were slightly jealous, it was what Darcy had expected. Maxwell was one of the good looking boys, he belonged to the slightly popular boys and girls, but he most definitely was not cocky or a guy that sleeps around.
And now, Darcy was his girlfriend. Michael and Calum both belonged to the popular group, Ashton used to, when he was still in school, but he graduated last year. Luke also belongs to the group, but it's basically divided in two groups, the one Michael and Ashton belong to, and the one Luke belongs to. Guys like Calum and Maxwell belong to both.
Darcy never hung out with them, she had two best friends she usually sat with. Darcy wasn't popular, people just knew her because Ashton is her brother, she is friends with Calum and Michael and now because she is dating Maxwell.
"I have chemistry now, I'll see you at lunch?" Maxwell asked Darcy and she thought for a second, she was not really looking forward to sitting with them at lunch, because she was just a junior and they were almost all seniors. To make it all worse, Calum and Michael were also seniors, but Luke sadly was still a junior.
So she would be stuck with him for another year after this one ends. Unless he gets expelled for something stupid.
"Yeah sure," She smiled and kissed him back, and then walked over to her locker to get her books. Monday always started with English, meaning she would see Luke again. She hated him, so much. "DARCY!" She turned around and saw her two friends running up to her. Cara and Lola hugged her and she smiled at them.
"I swear you changed too much in one weekend." Cara laughed, and Darcy furrowed her eyebrows. "Wait what do you mean?" "We mean that we don't talk to you for two days, and you somehow you walk in to school with a boyfriend." Lola then said, "Not to forget you actually went to a party and hooked up with somebody." Cara then laughed.
Darcy just stared at them, "You know I have liked Maxwell for over a year." She started saying. "And Ashton made me come." She said, it wasn't completely true, because he didn't make her come. "Well at least you still sit with us at lunch, because from our perspective, it looks like you want to make new friends." She said.
Darcy stared at her feet, not wanting to say she would sit with Maxwell during lunch. "You've got to be kidding me." Lola said, Cara staring at her best friend. "You can come with me, sit with them?" Darcy asked them, staring at them now. "Since you started tutoring Luke you changed." Cara said, grabbing Lola's arm and walking away with her.
What was happening, yes, she might have a boyfriend but was that all worth it. She lost her two best friends, she has known them for over ten years. She wanted to run to them and hug them, saying she would sit with them for lunch. But it was too late, they disappeared in to their class.
Darcy quickly grabbed her books and ran over to English class, hoping she made it on time. "Ah, Darcy." Her teacher said and smiled. "Luke told me last Friday didn't work out." She said, staring at her.
Darcy furrowed her eyebrows and looked at Luke who was smirking at her. "You two will have to do it today, then." She said. "I already spoke to Luke, he is okay with staying a little longer after school. Are you too? It will affect your grade, just remember." She said, Darcy gave her a small nod and looked at the classroom.
Almost every seat was taken, expect the one next to Luke. She groaned, sat down and threw her bag on the table. "Oh don't act like that, I know you're happy we got another afternoon together." Luke said, staring at her.
She looked at him, and then turned her head back to the class. She ignored him all of the class, he would kick her chair, whisper something to her and even grab a pencil from her pencil case. Darcy acted like she was made of stone, like he didn't even speak to her.
When the bell rang, she went to another period and this continued on until it was Lunch Break.
She got her lunch from her locker and walked over to the cafeteria. At one of the tables near the door, Lola and Cara were sitting. Darcy wanted to sit with them so bad, just because she did not want to go a lunch break being annoyed by Luke. She smiled at them hopefully, but they returned it by giving her a glare.
Maxwell spotted her and walked over, kissing her, grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the lunch table. He introduced her to a few people, she had small conversations whilst eating her food. She was squished in between Michael and Maxwell, and she felt safe.
Of course, Luke would every now and then look at her, wanting to say something but not coming up with the right thing.
When the bell rang, they returned back to class and it went on like that until the last period ended.
