Chapter 40

"And this is..." She said motioning me inside the room. "My lair."
I step into the room and look around seeing large bookcases covering most of the walls,
Dark walls were broken up with large windows around the wall. "Over on the left I have a separate space for practicing spells and making potions." She said gesturing to a space blocked by a black steel gate.
"This space is huge!" I exclaimed looking around the rows of books.
"It's not that big." She says with a shrug. "Unfortunately I can't do much practicing because I'm still underage. Well we still have a few more places to show you, let's get going."
"Sure." I answer as I follow her out the door.

After the tour of Alex's house ended we went back up to her room and groomed our pets until dinner.
There was a tiny knock on the door and Alex got up to answer.
I heard the mumbling of a conversation and then Alex turned back to me as she closed the door behind her.
"Let's take your stuff to your room then go down for dinner." She said and grabbed Thalia's cage.
"Alright." I answered, grabbing mu trunk and we went to the room just down the hall and dropped off my stuff.
"Are your parents going to be at dinner too, I haven't met them yet." I asked as we were walking down the stairs to the dining room.
"I can't say for sure, they might be busy with work and eating later. You may not even meet them in your stay here." She says with a bit of edge, and walks through the archway.
"That's a shame." I say and we both take our seats at one end of the table.
"It feels like we're eating in the great hall right now." I say, while fiddling with the beater bat charm on my necklace, taking a small bite of salad.
"Missing George, are we?" She says while stroking the heart on my bracelet.
"Maybe a little, but I see you miss Fred right now too." I say looking at her with a smile on my face.
"Not really I just need to occupy my hands and twirling my hair at the dinner table isn't very good manners."
"Oh please you never had an issue with manners at Hogwarts."
We both then heard a tapping on a nearby window. I opened it and William flew in and landed on the back of a chair.
"Hey look he's got a note." I pointed out looking at the envelope in Williams beak.
"Thanks William." She coos, taking the letter and beginning to read it, as I read over her shoulder.

Alex,
Sorry I forgot to give you your Christmas present before you left. You know with trying to stop you and all.
But I'll give it to you as soon as you get back.
Love Fred.

"Oh 'love' eh?" I said looking over at the letter.
"Nosy much? God what is he thinking? I told him nothing was going to change." She mutters, a blush crocheting her cheeks.
"But it's so sweet that he had to send you a letter apologizing for not giving you a present."
"Shit." She curses, swiftly grabbing a piece of parchment from the desk in the hall and a quill.
"Did you forget to buy him something?" I ask teasingly, leaning towards her.
"I was pissed at him, it's not my fault." She said and began to write furiously.

Fred,
It's alright, I forgot to give you yours before I left also.
I'll be back at Hogwarts before you know it.
And what was with the 'love Fred' part? I thought I told you we are still just friends.
Alex.

"Crush his dreams much?" I said, getting a bit disappointed in her, as she sealed the letter in the envelope and gave it to William.
"Bring this to Fred please." She said and William flew out the window.
"Oh he'll get over it. Anyways what do you wanna do tomorrow?" She asked sitting down again.
"Let's go bowling, I know how much you wanna go again."
"Yay I love that plan. Plus I need to go buy a present." She said a bit too excited.
"He'll never know you just bought it now."

The next morning after breakfast Alex and I got dressed and went and took a taxi into town.
When we got to the main area Alex and I got out and started walking.
"I still can't believe you haven't gone bowling since last time even though you live this close." I marvel as we pass some shops.
"Yea well it's not like my family will go with me and it's boring to go alone." She says And shoves her hands in the pockets of her red flannel.
"What are you going to get Fred anyways?"
"Still thinking." She says drooping her shoulders.
"Hey look we're here." I say and point at the huge brick building that is the bowling alley.
As we peak through the large glass door we see bright neon pins glowing because of the black lights on the ceilings.
There were disco lights flashing different colours and loud music playing.
"I guess they have an event." Alex pipes, pointing at a poster.
Disco bowling and free soft drinks all weekend.
"Wow we got lucky. Let's go get our shoes." I say and we walk over the the front counter.
"Just the two of you?" Says the clerk behind the counter.
"Yes." I answer.
"Fifteen dollars. And what size shoes do you two need?" Alex handed the clerk the money and told him her shoe size, then I got my shoes too and we went over to the lanes we were given.
"I'm so stoked right now." Alex exclaimed tying her shoes.
"It has been a while." I say as I punch our names into the monitor.

"Same result as last time." I sigh, sulking as pee usual, as I take off my shoes. "How did you manage to beat me 192 to 138 on only your second attempt at bowling?"
"I don't know, I guess I'm just naturally talented at this."

On our way out of the bowling alley we decided to go look at shops since Alex was in need of a gift for Fred.
"Hey Alex look there?" I was pointing at a dark tattoo parlour, I'd seen it before and still had the idea at the back of my mind. "We should get matching tattoos."
"Dude we totally should."
Good thing we've got fake ID's.
"What should we get?" She asks as the bell above the door rang.
"How about one of us gets the word 'mischief' and the other gets 'managed'? And we could get little footprints beside them." I suggest, the marauders map being the first thing on my mind after the whole animagus transformation guide revelation.
"That's sounds cool. But where did 'mischief managed' come from?"
"The marauders map." I whisper, as I pass her on my way to the counter.
"I've heard of that. I call 'mischief.'" She calls out, and we walk up to the counter.
We showed that lady behind the counter our fake ID's and she totally bought them.
We waited in the lobby until an artist was available.
