Alec tugged the zipper on his rucksack before slinging it over his shoulders. A beep from outside was his cue to leave the institute. So far it had been easy to pack up his items despite the memories attached the sentimental ones, it was a picture of himself and Jace from their early teen years. Out of everyone, his sister, his parents, it was Jace he would miss the most. He had wiped away a few slow salty tears that had managed to escape from his eyes.

Don't cry. He told himself. And it was that easy. A sharp inhale of air, one of his favourite sweaters tucked under his arm and he was out of the door. Now to make it through the institute without running into anyone and the plan would be perfect.

The idea of moving into a new apartment sparked when he and his parents had argued about him going to Magnus' house constantly.
"You practically live there!" His mother had shouted. Her eyes piercing his already fragile soul. "You may as well not be here anymore."
He had argued back of course however his parents were a force not to be reckoned with, not on the subject of family. If they wanted him out, he would be gone. A part of him knew they didn't want him to leave but in a fury of anger and upset he had ran Magnus who had immediately been there to comfort and suggest ideas - such as moving out.

Edging around the corners of the slightly lit hallways he reminded himself this would be the last time he would walk these halls. No. Stop. He knew thinking like that would stop him from going ahead with the plan. And that wasn't what he wanted. He wanted Magnus. That much he was sure of.

He stood at the top of the stairs and smiled, it was here when he had first fallen for Magnus - quite literally.

Alec ran a hand through his hair and headed down to the door, prepared to take his leaving steps. That was until a familiar voice boomed behind him.

"Nice Rucksack." Jace smirked and knocked his shoulder mockingly. "Where are you going?" He rolled his eyes, like he would have to ask. Alec was always at Magnus' place. Instead of the reply Jace had expected to get he was met with a warm hug. A teddy bear hug that had goodbye written all over it.

"Alec?" he asked, the words muffled by Alec's hair.

The dark haired boy pulled back straightened his jumper and edge the strap of his bag onto his shoulder properly. "You'll come and visit won't you?" The words were a soft whisper, any louder and his voice would have cracked.

Jace stared at the boy he knew as a brother. "I-I What. What do you mean? Alec?!"

Another beep and Alec knew it was time to go. His lover was waiting for him outside. The door was pulled open and he fled before his emotions kept him stuck in a place he no longer wanted to be.

Magnus gave a comforting grin with a hint of excitement as the boy clambered into the car. It was until the car door was shut that Jace appeared in the frame of the institute door.

He wasn't leaving him. Alec reminded himself. He would see him. He would.
