Chapter 16

The current pushed against us, pushing us down, but Hawk pulled me up with him. We both made it past the current, the tunnel as we left collapsed behind us, and a huge force came at us I became seperated from Hawk. I could not see in the dark where he was, I saw above me a faint light I blew some air out and kicked up aiming for that light. I kicked and kicked but my legs grew tired and my lungs screamed for air the surface seemed so far away. With the last of my strength, I kicked up, but it was no use, I had to open my mouth water poured in and I blacked out.
Next thing I knew, I was on the surface next to a roaring fire with a dry blanket covering me, I looked around I was still by the lake, I breathed slowly and pulled the blanket around me, I then saw Hawk my heart raced.
"Hi" Hawk said
"Hi" I wisperd
"I nearly lost you, after we were seperated I searched for you. I came to the surface and when you did'nt I went back in. You were blue when I found you, I brought you back to the surface and had to use mouth to mouth, I almost thought" Hawk stopped and shook his head it wss to much for him to say.
"You brought me back, how can I ever hope to repay you, for everything you have done for me" I said, my voice croaking
"You don't have to" Hawk replied
"I owe you so much, and now I owe you my life"
"Don't please"
I pulled him close to me and kissed his lips they were warm and welcoming.
"I am going to pay you back somehow, I promise" I put my head against his chest and hugged him, the moonlight shone clear and bright upon us, I still needed to to him my secret.
"We should go from this place" Hawk said
I nodded, slowly I got up and took the warm blanket off, I was still in the dress but it was now dry Hawk put out the fire and took my hand and we walked side by side in the moonlight, and starlight down the trail till we came to the camp, it had been trashed like a tornado had ripped through it all, stuff everywhere.
"Oh my" I said, holding Hawks hand tighter in mine.
"Well, well how romantic. The lady and the vamp" came a voice from behind us followed by a loud clicking, we slowly turned around it was James who was dripping wet and he had a gun pointed right at us.
"James?" I wisperd unable to believe my eyes.
"Yes, I have come for revenge, step away from her" James said, pointing the gun at Hawks chest, he looked at me and I nodded, he slowly moved away from me, it seemed much colder.
"Thats better. Who knew a little thing like you could be so much trouble" James said, turning his gaze on me
"Well that just proves you do not know me at all" I said
"I do know you, miss virgin, but there is another part"
"Hawk knows I am pure, what other part?"
"Your secret, the one Max told me, my lady" James said, with a grin
"Katie?" Hawk questioned
"So you have not told him" James said, still grinning
"I have wanted to, but thats not who I am, why bring it up?"
"Revenge of course"
"James, if I meant anything to you don't do this, please"
"I think, I will. Your friend here has a secret, I asked Max as we were serious he told me"
"Katie, what is this?" Hawk asked
"I wanted to tell you, my parents were murderd when I was very young, I had to be hidden, for protection" I said
"For your own safety, but you ran away" James interupted
"Why?" Hawk asked
"Her parents were very important people, a lord and a lady but they interfeard with the wrong people, they were killed, leaving a young daughter to inherit the title of lady, of couse she had to be hidden" James explained
"Is this true, Katie?" Hawk asked
"Yes it is, I ran away from that life many years ago, I was afaid. I had to run and change who I was, I am still Katie" I said
"Indeed, a pure lady, how rare, you shall be mine and carry my seed" James glared at me
"I will not" I said
"Yes, but first. I have to take care of your new friend" his gaze fell upon Hawk, the gun was pointed directly at his heart.
"I am not afaid" Hawk said, standing tall
"You should be, this is loaded with solid silver a garenteed vampire killer" James said, an evil grin spread accross his face.
His finger pulled back, then everything went into slow motion, the trigger realesed and the bullet erupted but I was already on the move, my movement seemed lightning fast as I pushed my full weight against Hawk.
The bullet caught up with me, just as I pushed him and it hit me like a thundering train into a non moving car, Hawk with his quick reflex's caught me before I could hit the ground the world around me seemed gray. Jame's face had gone white and he had lowerd the gun.
"Hold on" Hawk said, laying me gently down
"No" James wisperd
"Now you die" Hawk said, eyes blazing
James dropped the gun, and ran, Hawk took off behind him, I lay on the ground breathing heavily watching the world turn gray around me, then there was a scream and then silence the forest grew deadly still, my eyes grew heavy, I knew at last my time had come.
