Chapter 24

We headed back to the camp, we took our time glad to be with each other. When we arrived there was nothing left just small traces of ash and that was all, it was all gone, just as Hawk wanted but I still rememberd.
"Has he been here?" I asked.
"Yes" Hawk replied
I sniffed the air the same smell from the lake was here a rancid smell, it was horrid.
"Where is he now?" I asked
"Hard to tell, he came here looking for somethimg and left again"
"He's gone"
"Yes, but the sent is fresh"
"The lake, when you were gone, I heard a voice"
"Yes, he lingerd there, came here and then left"
"Thats not like Max"
"He is not the Max you remember anymore, he is someone different" Hawk said, taking my hand to comfort me, I had so many good memory's of Max I did not want to loose them.
"What do we do now?" I asked
"I could track him, or we wait for him to come to us"
"You think he will come back?"
"Yes, something he wants is here"
"What?"
"You"
"Me?"
"Yes, you. You defied his cheif he will want revenge"
"Well you killed the cheif"
"True, he will want to kill me"
"So we just wait?"
"Yes"
I huffed this was the plan, just sit and wait, just brilliant but then if Max did want revenge then he would have to find us, so I did see Hawks point of view. Time dragged by, we had made a fire and we sat by it hand in hand just waiting, there was no sign of Max. I had to streach, as I moved, I saw something in the shadow, it looked like a figure.
"Hawk look" I said with a nod
"Its him" Hawk replied
"What do we do?"
"Wait, let him make the first move"
We both stood and looked at the figure as it came close, almost in the light of the fire now it was Max he looked pale and ill.
"Katie?" Max questioned
"Yes it's me" I replied, reaching for Hawks hand, he took it.
"I lost you" Max said
"Well here I am, why don't you warm your self by the fire" I suggested.
Max came closer he was thin and that rank smell was awful, he held his hands over the fire.
"I feel sick" Max said
"Your very ill" I said
"I don't know what's happening to me" Max sobbed.
"You have been changed" Hawk said, speaking for the first time
"Who is this?" Max asked.
"This is Hawk, he is here to help" I replied
"Changed into what?" Max asked
"A very powerful vampire" Hawk replied
"That can't be"
"It is Max, I am one also" I replied
"You, and him?" Max questioned
"Yes, me to" Hawk nodded
"I know it is hard to believe Mac but it is true" I said
Max was still just gazing into the fire he was in shock. Then a strange look came into his eyes and a smile came across his lips it was a horrid smile, then he started to laugh.
"Max?" I questioned
"I knew, it all makes sense now, he chose me to carry on I was the strongest" Max said, still laughing.
Hawk moved slightly im front of me, both hands now free.
"You can choose a different path" Hawk said.
"Why would I?" Max asked
"If you come with me, I can help proctet you"
"I don't need your protection" Max spat.
"Max please listen to him" I pleaded
"Your the reason I am here, my cheif made it clear to me, to carry on I would need you a pure woman"
"I am not pure anymore" I said, taking Hawks hand.
"You gave yourself to him!" Max shouted
"Yes, I love him" I said
"As I love her" Hawk added
Max looked at us and let out a roar.
"I waited for you and then you give yourself to him" Max said
"I fell in love, it was the right time"
"We were getting close, I thought you loved me"
"I did, but it was never right"
"Fine, be like that just because you are no longer pure, it changes nothing"
"You will not harm her" Hawk said, standing taller
"You protect her?" Max asked
"Yes, I protect my mate"
"Your mate!" Max shouted
"Your angry Max, calm down please" I said
"Calm down how can I? I loved you Katie and you just swan off wity him!"
"I fell in love, it just happened, I love him and I want to be with him"
"Then I'll take him out of the pitcture" Max challenged
"If you fight you will lose, I have far more power than you" Hawk said
"Lets do this" Max said
"Dont do this" I said, looking at Hawk.
"A challenge has been made, I must accept it is my duty" Hawk replied.
"I understand" I said, bringing my face close to his and kissing his lips, I slowly went and stood to one side, I had to watch while the man I loved fought with Max.
"Hand to hand?' Hawk asked
"Power against power" Max replied
"As you wish"
Hawk removed his back back and then his shirt, on hid chest was a tattoo a large golden dragon breathing fire, I had not asked him about it. He took a deep calming breath made a small bow and streaks of blue shot out from his fingers he was very powerful. Max to made a bow then they circled each other and Max shot a green bolt at Hawk the fight had begun.
Hawk easily dodged the green bolt, it flew right past him and smacked into a near by tree. Hawk built up a large ball of power blue in colour and sent it at Max, who was not as quick it hit him in the chest and he roared. They had begun cirling again I could not look away, I was reaching inside myself for my power ready to help.
"I am a cheif vampire as you are, but you are weak" Hawk said
"I am far stronger than you think" Max said, as he let another green bolt fly. Hawk just managed to dodge it and returned with a bolt of his own again, it hit Max.
I had found my power now, it lay in the full darkness of my heart.
"It does not have to be this way, come back with me to the city live with my people" Hawk offerd.
"I can't do that, you must pay for what you did!" Max shouted letting a very large bolt fly, this time it found its target Hawk.
I winced it must of hurt, but Hawk never made a sound he just closed his eyes took a deep breath and sent a larger one back this one Max dodged and he grinned.
"When your dead, I will take your power then no one will stop me" Max said, with that horrid grin. He had a very large ball of energy built up already, I watched as it grew Hawk stood still and was muttering something under his breath, Max let the ball fly straight towards Hawk it then bounced of him, it was a shield.
"What?" Max was confused
"I told you, I was more powerful than you are, I have a trick or two up my sleve" Hawk said
Max roared and let fly with another ball, Hawk was not prepared and hit him hard, he yeld in pain.
"Hawk" I yelled
"Stay where you are" Hawk said, anger in his voice.
Hawk glared at Max and built up a large power ball this one was a gold colour, I guessed this one was more powerful than the rest and then and then he let fly, it hit Mac square in the chest and he went flying backwards and was smacked hard into a tree.
Max came straight back he was angry I could see it in is face. He closed his eyes and a power ball began to form this was a deep menacing red colour with green streaks running through it. I was very afraid. Hawk was muttering again, Max's ball left his hand almost gracefuly it seemed to hover in mid air, Max opened his eyes and grinned that horrid grin. The ball slowly left him and flew over to Hawk who looked afraid, it seemed to engulf him and I heard him yell in agony the power ball lingerd on him and then it was gone. Hawk was on the ground unconcious, what had Max done? Now was my time to act, I let fly with a power ball of my own and hit Max.
Max took his eyes off Hawk and turned them to me.
"That was not very nice" Max said.
"Don't touch him" I said
"It's not him I want"
I realised then, this had never been about Hawk, it was about me all along.
"Why?" I asked
"Your a mate to a very poweful vampire, you have as much power as he does maybe more, and once I take you. Your power will be mine" Max told me, a sick look on his face.
"Never!" I shouted, letting another ball fly, it hit Max again he just laughed, his power was greater than mine, I looked at Hawk still unconsios so I turned and I ran as fast as I could.
I had no idea where to run to, I did not know the area Max was hot on my heels, I just needed to buy Hawk some time.
"Max please think about what your doing, this is not you" I said
"Yes it is me" Max replied, appearing in front of me, I stopped dead in my tracks.
"We are friends"
"We were friends" Max corrected
Max was making another power ball like the one he used on Hawk.
"Max please don't do this" I pleaded.
Max shook his head and the power ball came for me, if engulfed me. It took possestion of me found my heart and hit it, I yelled in pain. My power was gone, it left me and I felt dizzy, Max was walking over to me.
"This will be fun" I heard him say, before blacking out.
When I came to, I was at the camp again Hawk was gone, had he got away?
I could not move anything I was drained of all energy it would take a while before it built up again.
"Well look who's awake " Max voice was near by .
"Where is Hawk?" I asked
"Who cares?"
"Me"
"He was gone, when I brought you back, I guess he left you"
"Hawk would never do that"
"Well it's just me and you now, it's like fate"
I said nothing, just glared at him, I knew Hawk he would come back for me it was just a matter of time, I just had to wait and find my power.
While I was still weak Max had bound me with a rope my hands were tied tight togther as were my feet I was unable to move.
"Max your the man the cheif turned years ago" I said
"Yes I am" Max replied, then started mumbling in a strange language I had no idea what he was up to or where Hawk was. Max slowly turned around a strange look was in his eyes, he held a small daggar in his hand and came towards me.
"Max what are you doing?" I asked.
I got no reply he came closer, and slowly cut my right arm, I did not scream I held it in. He carried the daggar with my blood on it over to the fire and started muttering again, what was he doing?
"Now let us begin" Max said, turning once again to me.
"What are you doing?" I asked
"I am going to take your power from you and then kill your mate" Max said
"Never!" I yelled
Max grinned and held something in is hands a strange looking orb, it seemed to glow.
I felt sick, I saw my hands glow blue and the sparks leaving them going to the orb it was draing me of my power of my very soul. I gasped as I realised what was happening, Max began to laugh.
"Once I have all your power, you will be mine" Max laughed
"No please" I said
I felt myself becoming weaker and weaker, soon there would be nothing left. Where was Hawk?
I needed him now more than ever. The orb glow was brighter than before stronger, filled with my power. Then it was gone, I felt it leave me I was powerless, I could'nt move or make a sound. Max grinned at me.
"Ahh now that's better, time to sort you out" Max said, he came over to me and with the daggar cut my leg bonds, and moved my legs so they were slightly apart, he started to cut away my clothes, I tried to move but nothing I was helpless. I felt his hands touching me, all over he started to remove his clothes.
"Your mine" Max said grinning.
I knew what he would do, and I could do nothing to prevent it.
