The Full Darkness Of The Heart

Chapter 3

I was woken by the sound of birds twittering and making a noise, I sat up and looked over at James who was fast asleep, I got up and out of the tent the sun was just coming up over the mountains, and the trees the camp looked completly different.
"Morning Kat"Louise called, walking over
"Morning Lou"
"How was your night?"
"Different, I enjoyed it"
"Morning ladies" Max said, walking over he was already dressed and looked like he had been awake for hours.
"Hi Max, so what have you got planned for today?" I asked
"Just wait and see" Max replied with a grin.
I rolled my eyes with Max anything was possible, I had known him for welk over eight years now and we were best friends he knew my secret and also introduced me to James.
"Come on Kat, lets get ready"Louise said, taking my arm, we walked over to out tents just as we arrived James and Dan came from out of them.
"Morning" James said, as we approached we both smiled and went into the tents .
I chose a string top a pair of shorts and my hiking too, I packed my luck back pack with the usual supplies water, first aid kit, sun block and maps.
"Come on!" Max shouted
"Alright, I am ready" I said, walking over to the boys no sign of Louise as usual we waited another ten minuets for her.
"Now we are all here, lets start our hike"Max said, setting off.
So we all set off after him down a well worn forest trail, and everytime we saw a deer we had to stop for Louise to get a picture of it.
The forest was beautiful, full of birds singing and bright green trees that went on for miles.
"Are we there yet?" Louise asked
"Not yet" Max replied
"My feet hurt"
"Well no offense, but you are really wearing the wrong type of shoes" Max said
I looked dowen at her feet she was wearing summer sandals the rest of us all had hiking boots Louise huffed, I slowed down and walked with her. The hike seemed to go on for ages with the trail twisting and turning getting deeper into the forest and closer to the moutains.
Then through the trees I saw the biggest lake I had ever seen it had crystak blue waters and not a ripple on it the mountain reflection was simply wonderful.
"It is so beautiful" I said
"Come on! Last one in is a rotten egg!" Max shouted, as he started stripping and running towards the lake, Dan and James took off after him I sat with Louise until she felt better.
"Are you ok now?" I asked
"Yes, thank you for staying" Louise replied.
"Thats ok, come on lets go join the boys"
"Yeah ok"
Myself and Louise got undressed just out of sight of the boys and walked slowly towards the lake.
I dipped my large toe in the water it was freezing.
"Come on in, you get used to it!" Jamed called.
"Yeah come on!" Max added
"Well are we ready for this?" I asked
"I am if you are" Louise replied
We took a look at each other and held each others hand and bravely walked into the lake when we were both waist high we both dived into the icy water.
"Hay, babe you ok?" James asked, swimming over
"Yeah just cold" I shudderd
"You do get used to it"
James was right, I did get used to it and was soon swimming up and down the lake with no problem at all. After a while I grew tired and pulled myself up on to a rock and lay flat upon it, I decided to sun bathe I knew my skin was already golden brown but the heck.
I must of dozed off in the heat of the sun, I was woken by the sound of screaming, I looked around and saw Louise struggling to swim it was like someone was dragging her under but I could not see anyone.
"Help!!" Louise sreacked dissapearing under the waves.
I looked for the boys Max was closest and was already swimming over I dived in and swam to where Louise had gone under.
"Where did she go?" Max asked, panting.
"Under" I replied
Max dived down for her and after what seemed like ages he brought her up.
"Oh Lou are you ok?" I asked, Louise did not reply, she was blue with cold.
"Quick take her to shore" I said in a panic, we all swam to shore and fast.
Max was first back with Louise in tow, I was next followed by James and Dan. I ran off and grabbed a towel to dry her off.
"Louise your safe now" I said, putting the towel around her, she just nodded at least she heard me.
"What happend?" Dan asked
"I am not sure, she was struggling to swim" I replied
"Look at this" Max said, he pointed to her ankel there was a huge bruise it almost looked like a hand had been wrapped around it.
We all got dressed and I helped Louise back into her clothes and dryed her the best I could, I was worried just what did happen?
I knew that I must find out, what was in that lake with us all.
