The Full Darkness Of The Heart

Chapter 14

"We stop here" James said
We had travelled a long way and my bare feet were sore, my blood still dripped on to the floor in hope Hawk would find me, I had no idea where we were, I was cold and tired, James removed the tape from my mouth.
"Where are we?" I asked
"Far deeper than anyone has gone" James replied
"Will you let me go?"
"Maybe, when we reach the surface"
"The surface?"
"Yes, we are traveling along the river it leads down to a large pond, that is at the bottom of the lake"
The lake, where Louise was dragged down, it all made sense the vampires must use it as an entrance and exit to the cave system.

Hawk knew the cheif was tiring he had to take adavantage, to follow Katie with the vampire who had taken her hostage. Hawk had to time his swing very carefuly to deafeat the cheif, when the cheif had his sword held high above his head, Hawk swung stabbing the cheif directly in the heart, the cheif let out a deafing howl and dropped down Hawk swung again taking the cheifs head off.
"Who's next?" Hawk challenged
The other vampires backed away it would not be long till they to were dead, they were already showing the first signs the ones who had been turned first were becoming like thin brittle skelintons and falling apart, loosing there life force.
There was a huge rumble and some of the cave ceiling fell down, after this there was a huge bang and more rocks fell Hawk knew a landslide had blocked the main entrance and the rest of the cave would also fall in as the cheif was part of it, he did not have much time to reach Katie and get them out.
The question was how to get out?
All the exits would be sealed by now, Hawk folded his sword away and then pulled on the pack just in case, he went over to the rock where he last saw Katie.
Hawk used his refind sense of smell and his sharp eyes, he noticed a small spot of blood on the floor he knew it was Katies he saw another one further ahead, he smiled she had left him a trail.

While we stopped James attached a length of rope to my handcuffs and attached it to himself, suddenly there was a huge bang and rocks fell, the whole cavern shook and the water that was running at my feet raised to above my ankle.
"Time to move" James said, yanking the rope
I stubbeld forward and more rocks fell something was going on and it was not good, the air changed to it seemed to be stale and not as fresh. The water was colder moving fast, I wanted to slow down but James kept yanking the rope to make me keep up.
"Slow down" I said
No answer just a yank, we travelled on in the darkness moving on to who know's where and what would happen to me when we got there.
The water was gradualy rising up and getting colder it had a small pull to it, and it was very hard going with James yanking all the time, the rocks fell down on us making it more difficult.
"Please slow down" I said
"We have to keep moving" James replied yanking the rope hard, I almost fell. James seemed to be in a rush to get where he was going. I was tired and footsore it was hard to keep up with him, who knew what he had planned.
Suddenly James fell over and was rushed down the corridor with the water, I fell also and was pulled along for the ride the water pulled us down the corridor like a waterslide, there was a huge roaring noise, and suddenly I was falling down a huge black hole, I screamed as I fell.
There was a loud splash blow me, I knew James had reached the bottom of the waterfall, I screamed till I hit the bottom and stuggled up the surface it was not easy with the handcuffs on, I felt the rope tug, I swam towards tge pull, James was standing on a flat surface he pulled my arms and I was pulled out dripping wet and cold but James did not stop he went off staight away, I shiverd as I walked, I had a feeling this would be the last leg of my journey and perhaps the end of me, my only hope was Hawk if he survived, I kept listening for any noise.

Hawk had followed the blood trail deep inside the cave, he was not tired at all just worried about Katie, the rocks had been falling all around him, he was bruised but he still made his way along the corridor.
As he made, his way, he heard a long scream he quickend his pace, arriving at the top of the waterfalk he stood stock still, he could smell Katie's sent she had gone over the fall, he took a deep breath and lifting his arms above his head, he dived off the edge and into the cold water below, he soon surfaced and made his way over to the opening on the otherside there he found a small drop of blood.

James and myself continued into the smaller cave, the water was all around us and up ahead was the pond, it was bubbling and over flowing a drip from the ceiling went down my back, making me shiver, I had a horrible feeling.
"Well here we are" James said
He pulled the rope, yanking me toward him, he then pushed me against a tall rock, wrapping the rope around it, he raised my arms above my head, and managed to tie the rope around my legs so I could not move, the water was rising up.
"You said, that you would let me go" I said
"No, I said, I would maybe let you go" James laughed
"Your going to leave me?"
"Yes"
He turned and dived into the pond, leaving me alone, the water was rising up, so this was how it all ended.

Hawk followed the corridor, into a small cavern, he went in the water bubbling, over at the far end was Katie, tied to a rock, she looked over and saw him, calling out.
"Hawk"
He had to get them out somehow.
