"Sloppy!" The boss spat. You stood on your bandaged leg with a blank look on your face.
"You did this on purpose. There is no way you, my best assassin, could possibly fail a simply mission. You continued to stare when a hard smack landed across your face. Your head craned to the side and you let it stay there.
"Finish the mission tonight or I'll finish it and you." Your boss growled menacingly. You nodded and limped back to your motorcycle. It had to have been 3 or 4 in the morning as you drive back to Joseph's house. This time you entered through the front door.
'You can't be distracted by him. He is your mission. Nothing more.' You chided. You were trained to be a stone cold killer. Why now all of a sudden you decide to develop feelings? What made this man different from your other targets?
'Nothing.' You told yourself. You took a deep breath and walked up the stairs softly. Joseph was laying in bed staring at the ceiling.
'Now! Shoot him in the head!' You yelled in your mind. It took everything you had to even point the gun at the man.
"Hey, don't chicken out this time, okay?" Joseph said softly. He startled you out of your concentration, causing you to flinch.
"You're pretty insane. You threw yourself out of a window and shot yourself in the leg. How are you back again. You put the gun in your holster and began to sign a reply.
"I was sent here to kill you. You're my mission." You signed. Joseph shrugged and looked you in your eyes.
"Too bad I don't understand sign language. You look cute when you sign." He commented. A blush adorned your face briefly, before you drew out your gun.
"And we're back to this now. Listen, you wanna kill me, let it rip. But you're sort of wasting my time right now. I can easily do it myself. " Joseph growled. His eye flashed anger and that same broken look that made you falter again.
'I can't do it.' You thought. You pulled out a cell phone and texted the contact saved as Natasha Romanov, your dear old friend.
"I need help going into hiding with a friend." You texted. Within minutes, you got a reply.
"Give me an address and some time." She texted back. You smiled and looked at Joseph. You threw the phone at him and started looking through his closet for a duffle bag.
"Going into hiding? Where are we going?" He asked. You just threw a black bag at him. He got the message because he got up and started packing. Everything you were doing right now was risky. You were caught; you, Joseph, and Natasha could be killed. You still didn't know why you were saving this man.
'Broken people gotta stick together.' You thought. After texting Natasha the address, she arrived in 30 minutes.
"Hey there, Serpent." She smiled. You gave a smile back and gave her a pat on the back. Joseph just stood behind awkwardly.
"Cute friend." Nat chuckled. You rolled your eyes and motioned for Joseph to get in the car. When everyone was in, Natasha drove away to a new and better life...hopefully. You looked over at Joseph and saw him staring at a picture of a little girl. Who was she?
