The Countdown

  Soon enough the famous ship sprung to life, with Jim at the wheel and Sophie trying to predict where the energy beams would strike next. "Yes! Morph, we are so out of here!" Jim yelled happily as he turned the ship, Morph laughed in delight but stopped short when another familiar laugh sounded, the teenagers turned with a start. "Ah, Jimbo!" Aren't you the seventh wonder of the universe?" Silver asked as he drew closer to the teenagers, Jim pulled Sophie behind him and grabbed a sword, pointing it Silver's belly. Sophie gasped but tightened her fists, glaring at the cyborg. She wasn't going to show him the slightest ounce of fear, "Get back!" Jim ordered, sending Silver a glare of his own. The cyborg glowered at the teenagers, a flicker directed at Sophie for the pain in his nose. "I liked ya kids, but I've come too far to let you stand between me and me treasure." He spoke darkly inching towards them, Jim's glare was replaced by a look of fear – he didn't have the heart to harm Silver.

During the confrontation, a beam hit the ship, throwing everyone off it with a scream, Sophie landed on the same piece of metal as Silver – he was more concerned with the ship, "Oh, no, you don't!" He shouted, pulling it closer to the metal away from the beam, Sophie was on her stomach trying to reach for Jim who had been unfortunate enough to fall closer to his death, but had managed to grab a tiny ledge that was closing in, "Jim! Grab my hand!" Sophie shouted, tears brimming her eyes. "I can't!" Jim shouted back, this was the most terrified he had ever been in his life and seeing Sophie's face only made it worse for him. "Reach for me now! Reach!" Silver called, their fingers inches away from one another, "I-I can't!" Jim shouted again, before screaming a little as he fell down a little further. "Silver, help him, please!" Sophie begged grabbing the cyborg's jacket, her dark blue eyes glistened with tears, he began to look between Jim and the ship. "Oh, blast me for a fool!" He shouted, letting go of the ship and sliding towards Jim as he began to fall again. The cyborg swung Jim up, who immediately embraced Sophie she could feel his heart beating madly in his chest, his hand on the back of her head. The ship hit one of the beams making it explode and rain down coins and jewels, Jim gripped Sophie tighter shielding her. "Come on, we need to get out of here." Jim spoke, the feelings of animosity and hate were soon forgotten as all three escaped through the portal.

"Silver, you gave up?" Jim asked, he could hardly believe the cyborg had given up the one thing he was always apparently out to get, just to save his life. "Just a lifelong obsession, Jim. I'll get over it." Silver replied wiping his eyes with his sleeve. Sophie sympathetically smiled at the cyborg but she still didn't trust him, "Aloha. Jimmy! Hurry, people! We got exactly two minutes and thirty-four seconds till planet's destruction!" B.E.N greeted as the RLS Legacy drew up towards the trio, Jim and Silver made Sophie climb aboard first then Jim followed with both teenagers pulling up Silver. The blonde ran up to her guardian, embracing her. "Take us out of here, metal man!" Amelia ordered, standing with Sophie's help however she smiled wirily at her goddaughter, "I haven't seen you stumble once Sophie." She smiled as B.E.N replied to her. Sophie blushed and nervously smiled back at her feeling another pair of eyes on her – Silver, who was smiling proudly at her.

"Captain, you dropped from the heavens in the nick of-" He began before the feline cut him off, angered by his previous actions. "Save your claptrap for the judge, Silver!" She snapped, turning away from him, the cyborg chuckled nervously as the teenagers looked at him with worried eyes – pirates were hanged in Montressor. Amelia sat down on the deck against the mast behind Doppler, who was doing pretty well to steer the ship for a beginner. Sophie felt a small smile grace her features, she wasn't the only that had changed during this voyage – even Doppler was becoming more gutsy and she admired that – her thoughts were interrupted when one of the missile tails were crushed by falling debris. With a gasp she ran to the edge of the rail and peered at the broken equipment. "Missile tail demobilised, Captain!" B.E.N shouted stating the obvious, pressing calculations into his device, Sophie felt her chest tighten from fear – the feeling of dread washing over her again."Thrusters at only thirty percent of capacity." B.E.N spoke again after a second of calculating, Doppler made his own as he mumbled to himself then turned to Amelia and Sophie. "We'll never clear the planet's explosion in time." He announced, Jim leant over the side of the ship, looking back towards the portal, the blonde frowned and jumped down beside him also looking, the portal! "We gotta turn around." Jim spoke, jumping down from the balcony. "What?" Amelia called, standing up and leaning on the rail, holding her injured side. "There's a portal back there. It can get us out of here!" Jim shouted as he ran towards the missile and began to pull at the debris, Sophie looked between him and her godmother, neither seemed to understand his plan. "Padron me, Jim but didn't that portal open into a raging inferno?!" Doppler spoke before shouting, Sophie winced and averted her eyes back to Jim who was struggling to pull a piece of metal out, "Yes!" He grunted as he got the metal free. "But, I'm gonna change that, I'm gonna open a different door!" Jim explained, Sophie squeaked a little in fright, he was going to finally show her one of his infamous stunts – but she wasn't looking forward to it.

"Captain, really, I don't see how this is possible-" Doppler began to argue in protest, Sophie watched with wide eyes beside B.E.N – hardly believing what she was seeing, "Listen to the boy!" Silver barked, interrupting the Doctor as he bounded down the steps towards Jim, kneeling beside him. "One minute, twenty-nine seconds till planet's destruction!" B.E.N screeched, Sophie bit her lip hard – she was terrified, not sure what to be terrified of first. She could faintly hear Silver asking Jim what he needed before his cyborg arm changed into a blowtorch. Unable to keep herself still, Sophie sprinted towards Jim as he hopped up onto the makeshift board, "Jim!" She called, he said nothing but turned with big eyes – wanting one last look at her to settle his own nerves and niggling negative thoughts. "Come back." She spoke, locking eyes with him as Silver grasped her shoulder gently. "Ok. Now, no matter what happens, keep the ship heading straight for that portal!" Jim ordered, with B.E.N shouting that there was less than a minute, "I'll be back." He promised to Sophie before turning and speeding off, Silver shielding Sophie with his arm. "Well, you heard him! Get this blasted heap turned round!" Silver shouted, Sophie flinched from his yelling which he softened with.

"I am sorry for everything lass." He apologised sincerely, she looked up at him for a moment before giving in and hugging him tightly – not caring what Amelia thought of it. "Doctor, head us back to the portal." The feline ordered, with the Doctor agreeing as the ship turned round. Silver sensed Sophie's wariness to Jim going ahead and gently grasped her shoulder again, "He'll come back to ya lass, I know he will." He spoke, remembering the times that he had managed to get Jim to open up about Sophie – he didn't want to spoil it for him but wanted to let Sophie know that he had a very good reason for coming back to her. "Go to the right! The right!" Amelia suddenly screeched, Sophie laughed a little at her godmother, it was the first in a long time that she had seen her openly stressed. "I know, I know! Will you just let me drive?!" Doppler shouted back, Sophie's eyes widened at his outburst – just as surprised as everyone else. "Twenty five seconds!" B.E.N shouted frantically, Morph covered his eyes and buried himself in Sophie's hair though Silver wouldn't let the blonde see what was worrying him and his Proteus-One companion, though her heart thudded when B.E.N started to count down from the last ten seconds remaining. This was it.
