"Sophie?" Jim called, he had been calling her name for the last few minutes – she was down in the galley somewhere, he could feel it. "Leave me alone!" Her muffled voice called back, the brunette paused in his steps and turned to face the door he hadn't long passed – what was she doing in the pantry? He moved towards the door cautiously, his hand reaching out towards the handle but stopping short when he heard the muffled cries of the blonde. Gripping the handle, he never felt more tense in his life – the one girl who he had grown to really like was crying because of him, maybe she didn't want anything to do with him anymore.
Not wanting to wait any longer, Jim opened the door to a startled Sophie Pennant, eyes red and puffy from her recent crying."What do you want?" She asked, her voice thick from mucus and crying – she was a state, her hair messier than usual and her usual complexion more pale and dark eyed. Jim hesitated in his words, forgetting his rehearsed apology, numbly he reached for her hand, not even sure why he did such a thing. Instantly her hand retracted away from him, a suspicious and hurt look on her pretty features, Jim sighed miserably – of course she wouldn't want to hold your hand! He cursed to himself, he really was an idiot when it came to girls. "I shouldn't have said what I said... it was wrong and I'm sorry." He finally spoke, his eyes looking into hers – meaning every word he said now. Sophie's dark blue orbs widened a little before her blonde eyebrows furrowed, "I don't want to hear it." She spoke coldly, surprising herself and Jim backed off visibly shocked. "Too late, the Sophie I know wouldn't pick another fight." Jim spoke back, for once not raising his voice. "Leave me alone, I don't know anything about people so why waste your time with me?" Sophie asked, more of a rhetorical question but seeing Jim was still raw for her. He bit his lip and looked away, regretting what he had said earlier – berating her intelligence and how she loved to read, she was good with people. She made Jim realise that some things were plain to see after all, such as her admiration for him. "You know me... more than I probably know myself." Jim spoke, realising his hand was edging towards her again but this time – she didn't pull away, she welcomed it.
Sophie felt her eyes fill with tears again, not out of sadness but happiness, grasping Jim's hand in hers. "Please don't cry... I'm not good with anyone crying..." Jim protested kindly, a small laugh at his pathetic admission, Sophie hurriedly wiped her eyes with a shaky laugh. "Sorry... it's just been a-" She apologised, blue eyes locking onto his, "Tough day, I know." He finished, his body seemed to have a mind of its own as he wrapped his other arm around Sophie's waist, she wasn't stick thin but she did seem to look after herself. Sophie blushed a little but didn't pull away, being somewhat hugged by Jim felt... it felt right. Her heart picked up on pace as her hands felt clammy, she never felt this when she was hugged by boys in school. Jim seemed to notice that she was a bit uncomfortable as he pulled away and straightened out his jacket, trying to hide his red cheeks. "Uh... I hope you can forgive me, if you want." Jim spoke, ending the silence. "I've already forgave you Jim, sorry for the stuff I said."Sophie smiled before apologising for her wrongs, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear looking at the floor – what could she say to someone she liked? She hadn't been in this situation before, he probably had a girlfriend at home. "What's wrong?" Jim asked, rather concerned that Sophie looked miserable again. "Oh! Nothing, just thinking." She answered, distancing herself a little more from Jim. "Sorry if I'm keeping you up." He spoke, Sophie shook her head whilst crossing her arms, she couldn't sleep – Mr Arrow's death was still sinking in and she could only see him when she closed her eyes. Jim hugged her, feeling braver than earlier, she needed a hug – Silver's helped him. "It's ok to miss him." She nodded into his jacket, slowly embracing him back, the brunette sighed quietly when her hands pressed against his back – she fitted perfectly to him.
