Bit tear-jerking. Not going to lie. Maybe final chapter? Maybe not.
She sat in the back of the car so that she could stretch her legs more, wondering why on Earth people complained about being in labour. She felt absolutely no pain at all. If giving birth was like this, she'd be more than happy to do it.
John was luckily less than a minute down the road. They saw him walking and Dave slowed up the car to stop beside him.
Opening the door, Clara chirped to him "I'm in labour, quick get in."
John's face went from one of utter confusion, to one of shock, to one of panic to one of almost hysteria.
"What?!" He shouted as he got in the car, quickly shutting the door behind him. "You're what? But you're only thirty-eight weeks!"
"Bloody hell, calm down John! Clara said to him. "Seriously, my waters broke but I'm fine." She gave him a small smile and he gave her the same look she was receiving from everyone else in the car. It seemed to read, are you sure you're fine? Like, mentally?
After a while of silence, Gran asked simply, "Which hospital are we going to?"
"Queen Charlotte's. They have all the notes." John replied simply, his hand reaching to Clara's to hold.
It was in that small gesture that Clara realised why everyone was so panicked. They just didn't want anything to go wrong.
"Hey John." She said softly, squeezing his hand. "Look at me."
He turned to her, the worry clearly etched in on his face. He was probably more worried that she was completely fine that anything else. He gave a small smile and she smiled back.
"It's all fine John. Look I'm completely fine."
She gave him another smile, which was suddenly cut off but a gasp of pain as she hunched over, clutching her stomach.
"Oh, bloody karma." She cried as she had her first contraction. She was vaguely aware she should be counting the time and tried her best to say the seconds in her head, but each second felt like a millennia apart.
She could feel John gripping her hand tight as he said something soothing, but soon enough the pain was gone and she felt like she could actually breathe again.
"How long was that?" Dave asked urgently.
Clara looked John in the eyes, looking out of breath with tiny bit of water rimming her eyelids. "If that's what giving birth feels anything like, I want a C-section. Right now."
John was prepared to laugh, but then realised she meant it in all seriousness.
"Clara, how long was that?" Dave called back once more, demanding an answer.
"Thirty-three seconds." She moaned, hoping another one didn't come soon. "Why are we even going to the hospital, they won't do anything yet!" She groaned as the car halted to a stop.
"Because if you look at the traffic right now, it's going to be at least an hour before we get there and I'm not risking it!" Dave snapped back, causing Clara to groan again.
There was a small silence for a couple of minutes until Clara groaned again, John choosing to count for her this time as he held her hand and rubbed her back. She whimpered softly, not liking it one bit.
After fifty-two seconds, the contraction finally stopped as Clara sat back up.
"I am not going to last an hour." She moaned, and everyone in the car winced.
