Chapter 20 The Trigger Part One
Drew, Emma, Tyler and Vincent decided to stick around when morning came around. It wasn't a surprise, they always seemed to be here now, with the exception of Vincent. My thoughts drifted to my dream. The dream kept me awake the rest of the night and haunted my thoughts.
With One, the Dirt will Crumble.
With Two, the Oceans will Surge.
With Three, the Fire will Burn.
And Earth will Peril in a Fiery Blast.
And the World Shall be Ours Again.
As the words tumbled to the front of my thoughts I shivered. And I couldn't tell if it was anticipation or dread. I think a mixture of both but there was more anticipation and that scared me. I could feel something trying to claw its way to the front and I knew then that it wouldn't be much longer.
I thought it was time to talk to everyone now. I knew Kole's been having the dreams too; he told me this morning he had another. It was the second time he mentioned having a nightmare the same time I did and I didn't believe in coincidences.
And if Kole and I had been having the same dream I'm sure some of the others have too. Although I really did need to talk Damien. Today, I was hoping. So during breakfast I called for everyone's attention. "I think it's time talk."
Immediately a hush fell over the room and even Drew, Tyler, Emma, and Vincent knew this was important. Jet was the first to say anything, "Alright. When?"
"When I get back." I said through a mouthful of eggs, "I'm gonna go pay Damien a visit. Haven't seen him in a while."
"Has anyone talked to him in a while?" Savannah asked and I glanced at her quickly.
"I haven't heard from him for a couple weeks." I replied, "What about anyone else?” Nobody said anything so I took that as a no. How odd, Damien never went too long without talking to one of us. I had assumed he'd been talking to someone else when I stopped hearing from him.
"Hey," Jet grabbed my attention, "Why don't you bring him back, after you find him? I'm sure he needs be in this talk with us."
"I'll drag him back if I have too." I promised. "I'll go now. Don’t want to waste any time." I stood up after eating my last piece of bacon and walked the few feet to put my plate in the sink.
Drew stopped me by the elevator, "How long do you think you'll be?"
"An hour, at most." I told him, "Why?"
"Nothing, I just want to talk you is all."
"I'll be back soon then." The elevator dinged and I stepped on.
"Okay." He smiled and I felt my heart kick up a notch. This boy was going to do me in.
The traffic was good so I reached Damien's apartment in less than half an hour. The building looked even more deserted than the last time I was here. The stairs creaked more and more paint had chipped off the walls. Damien should really just live with us; it'd get him out of this dump and somewhere that had actual locks. I had to bring it up or at the very least convince him to find a different apartment.
When I reached the door I knocked and waited. A few seconds later I knocked again and then repeatedly knocked on the door. Patience was not one of my virtues. It hadn't taken long before I was yelling and kicking on the door but Damien still didn't bother to answer and that pissed me off.
"Damien open up!" I yelled. A door slammed behind me and I jumped.
"Would you shut up?"
I turned away to see a very hungover man, Carl.
