Chapter 6 Dinner Dramatics
It was dinner time and the turkey was somewhat cooked. I really wished Kole would tell me a few days ahead of time before he was going to pull another one of his antics. Unfortunately I knew that he wouldn’t and I'll be the one to pick up the pieces. I was pulled from my thoughts when I heard a sudden yelp of shock. And then Kole spoke, "Emilia! What did you do to the turkey?"
"I cooked it?" I answered hesitantly. I had never cooked a turkey in my life. Had he really expected me to cook a perfect turkey the first try?
He gave me a doubtful look and pointed at the turkey, "Then why does it look like that?" The turkey was a mash of mangled meat. It looked like it had been bashed with a hammer and then cut up into pieces.
I instantly grew defensive, "Do you know how long it takes for a turkey to thaw?" I asked him. People spend an entire day to cook a turkey, "Hours and hours on end." I went straight on, "And then to actually cook the turkey takes more hours on end! You're just lucky I was able to get it done in three hours!"
“Is it edible?”
“No.”
“What did you do to it?”
"It was taking for ever to thaw so I tried to cut up into pieces so it thaw faster but it was really hard to cut into an unthawed turkey so I put it in a big pot of boiling water and while it was in there I cut it up into pieces to speed up the process even more."
"Is... is it edible?" He asked hesitantly.
"You asked that already." I replied. I had tried to thaw a turkey in less than an hour. Then I had tried to cook it in the same amount of time. Of course it wasn’t edible.
"That’s right…Why not?"
"You gave me three hours Kole! Three hours to cook an entire turkey! It can't be done!"
"Well! What are supposed to eat now?"
I grinned. "I'm way ahead of you. Do me a favor Kole and take that turkey to the trash please."
"I think we should bury it."
"Bury it? Why?"
"Yes bury it. Because it obviously went through so much in just the three hours we had it."
I glanced a look at the horrid looking turkey and silently agreed. "If you can find a shovel, we can give it a funeral service."
I stared at the turkey for a few minutes before finally putting the lid over it and turning towards the phone to order some pizza. I set the phone down after ordering the pizz. From the kitchen I heard a muted curse and a loud bang. I stormed out of the kitchen, yelling, “Hey! What did I say about naughty words!”
There was no one there. I glanced around, puzzled. I knew what I heard and I knew what I saw. The two just didn’t match up. I heard another bang and a curse. It was the elevator! I hurried over to it. Had someone already lost their key? It would have been a record. My hand was inching towards that door opener button when the person called out.
“Hey! Anybody there? It’s Vincent! Can someone let me in?” No way… It was Vincent. I knew I had forgotten to tell him something. Who knew it was telling him the key code. The merciful thing to do would have been to let him in but… I didn’t want him here in the first place. “Emilia! Are you there?”
“I do not know zis… Emilia person vich you seek. Please leave.”
“Emilia… your German accent sucks.”
