Chapter 4 Lost in NYC

“Where’s our food?” Joey demanded when Damien, Tyler, and I got back to the cars empty handed. It had been a unanimous decision not to tell anyone. I doubted they didn’t know what happened; it was only a few blocks down the street. I saw the scene from here. But I wasn’t going to tell them anything. None of them had to know what we brought them to. I never should have suggested this.

“They closed down.” Damien replied easily. I didn’t know how he did it. I felt like I was going to crumble as I forced a smile., “We’ll just have to order take out or something when we get to the apartments. To the jeeps!”

Tyler, who had his arm slung over my shoulders, pulled into a side hug, “See you soon.” Then he and Emma walked to his car which happened to be a few cars down from us. It was an old beat up retired cop car. I was in disbelief that I hadn’t seen it before now.

“Damien?” I asked, stopping him from getting in his jeep, “When do you have to go to your own apartment?”

“I was told to give the receptionist a couple hours since they had moved a lot of new people into my building. But I figured I’d go tonight after hanging with you guys. You’ll still drive me there right?”

I nodded, feigning a sense of normalcy, “Yeah of course.”

He smiled, “Great, now lead us to your new home. And… it will be alright Emilia. It will be, I promise.”

I smiled before it slowly slipped, “I know… it’s just… you know… I think I lost the directions.”

“You lost the directions?” Damien muttered, shocked.

“I must of dropped it on our way to Wendy’s.”

Damien shook his head, “I can’t believe I’m leaving you in charge.” He muttered.

“Hey!” I protested, “I am very responsible.”

“So responsible that you lost the directions?”

I glared at him, “This doesn’t count.”

“Oh but it does.”

“Where are your directions then?” I prompted, “I gave you a copy of them.”

“In my back pocket,” Damien said, his hand reaching in his pocket, “Where I left them.”

A smug smile graced my lips when he started to pat his pockets, “Is there a problem Damien?”

“No of course not.” He muttered.

“Then where are the directions?” He muttered something under his breath. “I’m sorry, what’d you say?”

“I lost them.”

“And you call me irresponsible. Tsk, tsk Damien. Tsk, tsk.”

“Oh shut it Emilia.” He muttered, “We’ve just got to back track and we’ll find them.

“Hey!” I glanced to the left and saw Eli hanging out the window, “What’s the holdup peeps?”

“Emilia lost the directions.” Damien accused.

“You lost your directions!” I sputtered.

“So what you saying,” Eli interrupted, “We have no way of knowing how to get to the apartment.”

“Yes.” I said and Damien said, “No.”

He glared at me and started to speak again, “We’re going to back track, we’ll find them and if we don’t we’ll go back and ask for new directions at registration.”
