Chapter 15 The First Set
Someone was screaming. They were screaming like they were fighting death itself. Another heart wrenching scream sounded through my thoughts. Then I realized that I was the one screaming. My eyes snapped open, landing on the ceiling as I chocked on a sob. I think I screamed again, everything just seemed so real and I felt so confused.
Drew burst into room yelling my name. I saw his lips moving but no sound other than my pitiful sobs registered as I struggled to get untangled from my thin blanket.
I screamed again and tried to pull away when I felt something grip me.
“Emilia! Emilia! Calm down, you’re alright! I promise!”
The grip tightened as I continued to squirm about and on instinct I swung out but it was stopped. “Emilia, it’s just me! It’s Drew!” I relaxed against him instantly and his arms wrapped around me and rocked us back and forth. I sobbed against him taking in the comfort he gave. “It was just a dream. Just a dream. You’re fine.” He murmured to me repeatedly. When I was finally able to control my tears I noticed Emma, Tyler and Kole were standing in the doorway. Both of them looked worried but other than that they looked fine; maybe a little tired; but fine.
“I’m sorry.” I said which brought tears to my eyes, “It just seemed so real!” I pulled away from Drew slightly and he let me but his arms were still firmly around me. “It was just so real” I said again.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Emma asked, moving further into the room, Tyler and Kole following her. The three of them sat down on the edge of bed.
I leaned back into Drew and shook my head but my verbal cords seemed to disagree with me as I told them about my dream. Everything I remembered, now that I was awake and tried to remember, it seemed hazy, like none of it actually happened. Because it didn’t but somehow even with the haziness it still felt real.
Maybe it was just because in my dream I was in Los Angeles and I knew the San Andreas Fault was near there. Well at least I thought it was near it. I knew they were both in the same state. But on the fault there were always earthquakes. Of course none that were on the scale of what I dreamt.
I told them everything but what the reporter had said. Despite the haziness I remember her words clearly.
With one the dirt will crumble.
I had no idea what to make of it.
I knew Emma had realized I didn’t tell her everything. Somehow she always knew when something was bothering me or if I had forgotten to say something. I give her look to tell her I would tell her later. She seemed to relent.
I pulled away from Drew when I realized I was still leaning against him. I sat up on the bed and Kole scampered over to me. He still looked quite scared but I guess that would be normal though. Not many kids were awakened by their sister screaming bloody murder.
CLANG!
Emma let out a scream and I jumped from the sudden noise. I brought Kole closer to me, seeing that he was shaking. Tyler stood up taking a few steps towards the noise before he stopped and turn to look at the four of us.
“What was that?”
“It sounded like a pot falling off the counter.” Emma said but I didn’t believe her for a minute. “We did have mac’n’cheese for dinner. It probably fell.”
Tyler nodded looking like he believed the explanation, “I’ll go check it out.” Before I could say anything he walked out the door. I heard him move through the hallway and toward the kitchen.
