chapter 8

• Renae's POV •

As I pull away from my mom Jenny looks at me in disbelief. "What's wrong?" I ask. "I just can't believe you're here! I thought you were going to be gone forever!" Jenny says and chuckles. Jenny and I then watch the police come out of her house. "Did you find anything?" Jenny's mom asks. "Well..we did find an iPhone and we believe it belongs to you?" The police says staring at me. "Oh, yeah that's my phone" I say reaching for it. "Not just yet! We want to look through your phone and see if we can find anything" the other police said. "Oh okay" I say and pull my hand back. "Wait, what is there to look for?!" Jenny asks with a confused face and tone. "We just want to see if we can get an idea of who this person is" the police say. "But I don't have anything on my phone about the person! I delete all the messages because I want to forget about them. There's nothing to look for, and by the way this is my property" I tell them. "Well maybe you forgot to delete some messages!" One of the policemen says with a rude tone. "You guys are so cocky it's unbelievable" I say and roll my eyes. "Okay your house is off limits for the night since we still have to do some investigation! Don't worry though, we checked out a room for you guys at Best Western" the police tells Jenny's mom. "Alright sounds good to me" Jenny's mom says. "Wait! Can I just get some stuff from my room?" Jenny asks the police. "Sorry young lady, but you cant" the police says. Jenny rolls her eyes and steps back. "Alright well we better get going" my mom says. "I'll be in the car" I hear my dad tell my mom. "Okay well bye Jennifer" I say and hug her tightly. "Bye Renae" she says and hugs me back. "I love you" I tell her and pull away from the hug. "I love you too, Renae" she says and smiles.

My dad drives into the drive way and park the car. We all get out and walk to the front door. "Where's Sofia and Ethan?" I ask as we all walk into the house. "They're home" my mom says and closes the front door. "Oh" I say as I see Ethan walk down the stairs. "Where have you been?" he asks. "Missing" I say and walk to the kitchen. I open the pantry and grab a box of cereal. "It's 11:45" my brother says looking at me with a weird face. "I know" I say and pour the cereal into a bowl. "Can you grab me the milk?!" I ask as my brother walks by the fridge. "I guess" he says and opens the fridge. He takes out the milk and sets it on the table. "You're welcome" he says and walks out of the kitchen. I sit down on the kitchen table and finish eating my cereal.

As I turn off the lights in my room I notice a silhouette of a person outside my balcony. I didn't want to check but I felt like I needed to. As I open the curtains I find a sticky note attached to the balcony glass.
