chapter 9

• Renae's POV •

I didn't feel safe. Not only because I knew someone was watching me, but because I was at risk again.

I close my curtains and change into my pajamas and start to get ready for bed. I look at the clock, 12:15 am, I read. I get into my bed and turn off my lamp. I slowly began to fall asleep.

I wake up with the sun glaring in my eyes. I look back at my clock, 9:30 am, I get up and open the curtains. I look out the glass balcony, great they're building another house in our neighborhood!? I thought to myself. My mom walks in, "Honey, Jennifer called and said that she's on her way to bring your phone", "Oh Okay" I say as I form a fake smile. "Are you okay?" my mom asks me. "Yeah, I'm fine" I tell her. "Okay, well if you ever need to talk I'm here for you", "Thanks, Mom" I say and walk out of my room. Suddenly the doorbell rings. It was obviously Jenny so I went ahead and answered it.

"Hey!" Jenny says as I open the door. "Hi! Come on in!" I tell Jenny. "Oh no! It's fine, I just came to drop off your phone" she says while handing the phone to me. "Oh okay! Thanks!" I tell her. "No problem! Hey by the way are you going to Ginnet's party tonight?" Jenny asks. "Yeah, I'm sure I'll go!" I say. "Do you need a ride?" Jenny asks. "No, it's okay!" I answer back. "Alright well, see you later!" Jenny says as she gets into her white BMW 1-series coupe. I wave back at her and watch her leave.

I look at my clock, 8:30 pm. I was just finishing getting ready when my phone vibrated. I read the message from Vanessa,

"Are you coming?!"

I reply and say goodbye to my mom and dad and leave to the party.

When I get to the party everyone is staring at me. I didn't know why, maybe word got around, I wasn't sure but it was getting on my nerves already. "Renae!" Vanessa says as she runs up to me and hugs me. "Hey Vanessa!" I say as both of us start walking towards Ginnet, Samantha and Jenny. "Finally you came!" Sammy says. I laugh and say hi to everyone. "How have you been?" Sammy asks. "Good, I guess" I tell Sammy. "Renae, I need to tell you something" Ginnet says as she pulls me away. "What's up?" I ask. "How's everything? Seriously." Ginnet asks with a concerned tone. "I don't even know Ginnet! I don't feel safe anymore! I can't do anything without feeling uneasy! I hate it!" I say tearing up. Ginnet hugs me tight and we stand there for a moment. "Well, I'll tell you this! We are going to get through this!" Ginnet tells me. We both walk back to the rest of the girls.

"Ginnet, can I use your restroom?" I ask Ginnet. "Sure! Go ahead and use the one in my room if you want" Ginnet says. "Oh okay" I say making my way down the hall.

As I was walking I felt like someone was following me. I couldn't help but turn around. "Oh my gosh! You scared me!" I say. "I'm sorry!" the guy said. "It's okay.." I say and continue walking. "Um..you're not going to introduce yourself?" he says. "Sorry, I didn't know you wanted me to...I'm Renae" I say and smile. "Pretty name. I'm Liam...if you don't remember me giving you a ride" he says and chuckles. "Oh Yeah! What are you doing here?" I ask him. "Well I'm good friends with Ginnet and her sister" Liam tells me. "Oh that's cool..." I say. We stand there awkwardly. "Well I'll talk to you later!" I say. "Okay" Liam says and walks in the other direction. I turn around to continue walking when someone pulls me into the closet. "What?! Stop! Let go of me!" I yell trying to find my way out of the closet. "Shhhh.." the person says. "Who are you?!" I ask with a panicked tone. "You don't need to know that" he says whispering in my ear and grabbing my waist towards him. "STOP! Get away from me!" I shout. "Don't fight it princess" he says. I then kick him and manage to make my way out. I run to Liam as fast as I can crying my eyes out. "What the heck happened to you?!" Liam asks with worry in his eyes. "He's here!" I say while trying to catch my breath.
