I heard some noise in the kitchen and got up. It would be good to have a chat with him. Get to know who my sister is dating. I mean what type of nigga is ginger and gets away with it?  Heck is he mixed with? Ginger Bread Biscuit ass.

I pulled away from Iza and left the room trying to not wake her up.

"Girl sleeps like a damn rock." I mumbled to myself going down the hall.

I walked into the kitchen yawning and saw Kelly sitting on the stool eating cookies she dipped on milk.

"Big head." I said sitting on the stool next to her.
"What do you want?"
"Thought I'd run into your boytoy."
"He's not a boytoy."
"You're keeping him this time?"

She rolled her eyes.

"It's not like that."

I chuckled taking a cookie from the tray and eating it.

"What's it like?"
"You remember how papa looked at nana when we were kids?"

I nodded.

"He looked at me like that on our second date. We'd known each other for a month. We texted all the time and he'd do these little things to make me smile."

She chuckled.

"Without me asking or really accepting. I turned him down five times before going on a date with him again and guess where he took me... To chuck & cheese."

I clicked my tongue.

"Low blow."
"Right!"

I smiled.

"We started spending more time with each other and he started introducing me as his girlfriend. Not that I cared. Explaining otherwise later would be his problem. One day we're at the mall and we run into this old man that greets him kindly and he as usual introduces me as his girlfriend. The man looked so happy for him that I asked who he was and he just smiled saying it was his stepdad."

I looked at her.

"He does it for me in more ways than one. I'm not letting that go."

"You out the game?" I said putting my hand over my chest dramatically.

She laughed.

"Don't even. You seem to trailing right behind me."

I half smiled shaking my head.

"It would have to be mutual."
"Nigga if that wasn't mutual I don't know what is."
"That's apart... Like a sport."
"Nigga where do you think you are? The cast of "Friends with Benefits"? Sit yo ass down somewhere!" She laughed.

I chuckled shaking my head.

"I'm not kidding though. I'm drawing that girl and she says its not that deep.

Kelly rose an eyebrow.

"She doesn't know you like her."
"Bullshit."
"She thinks you're helping her recover."

I looked at Kelly.

"She told me about it."
"Yall been having conversations on me now?"
"Oh don't act surprised."

I chuckled.

"She's not compensating anymore but you know, she's a little rusty with the signs and what they mean."
"So she likes me but she doesn't know."
"How to say it. Or really digest it all."
"What do I do with that?"
"Try making the first official step."

I frowned.

" Start putting name on things: Let's go on a date; Baby can you do me a favor; Change her name on your phone of what you want her to be; let her know without saying. Words are only necessary to a certain point."
"Okay."
"See how that goes into the next month."
"Week. I'on got time to wait."
"Trey isn't gonna snatch her up."
" You don't know that." I mumbled.

She laughed at me.

"Shut up big head."
"Is that why you got her working with you?"
"Nah."
"Nah. You lying." She mocked.
"I'm not. It just got tiring to have to let her go to work and wait a whole day to see her again."
"That's the cutest thing I've heard you say since you were five."
"Ain't no'ne cute."

She clicked her tongue.

"Ruined it."

I flashed a toothy smile making her shake her head.

"She's a good one. Don't mess it up."

I took another cookie.

"She's not Kenya. Don't treat her the same way."

I clicked my tongue.

"Fcuk Kenya."

She shrugged taking a sip.

"Try it. It'll work."
"I will. Does he not miss you out of bed?" I asked.

She laughed.

"Nah. I knocked him out."

I shook my head irked at the thought of what that meant. Just then there was noise in the hallway.

"100 to whose it is."
"Better hand me that hundred big head."

I said recognizing her lazy steps down the hall and the annoying habit she had of running her nail tips against the wall.

"Anthony?" She called.
"In the kitchen baybeh."
"Come back to bed." She said in a raspy voice coming in the kitchen.

I cleared my throat at the sound of her voice giving me chills.

"Duty calls."

Kelly shoved my shoulder lightly as I jumped off the stool.

I met her in the hallway.

"Let's get back to bed. Got a long day ahead of us."

She nodded still drowsy hugging my side.
