A/N this Laura character is of my own making, and this is set after Doomsday and pre-Martha. I really wanted to do a chapter like this because I know a lot of people struggle with the same thing that Laura does. And I also know that some of those same people want the Doctor to help them, and this is almost the same thing. Okay that's all enjoy!

Doctors POV

Laura has been traveling with me for the past 6 and a half months, and is rather brilliant. She always has a solution, and is wonderful at problem solving. Well, wonderful at solving problems that we often find ourselves in. And such a smile too, always so bright and shiny. But, that bright shine that Laura has is starting to wear off. I don't know what from, but it's affecting everything, even the TARDIS. I want to find out what's wrong, and I am absolutely determined that I'm going to fix it. And one more thing. She is only 13, and shouldn't be losing the light of life quite yet. So, I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen. 9:30 in her time zone. Probably still awake. I guess I'll go see what's been bothering that brilliant mind lately. I walked to her room and knocked on the door. I didn't hear anything, so I opened the door just a little. She was asleep, so I decided to wait until the next morning to have the little questioning time.

-------LE TIME SKIP-------

(Still Doctor's POV)

Morning time, and my lovely companion decided to join me in the console room.

"Good morning, Laura, how'd you sleep?" I asked, then I looked up to see dried tear streaks on her face and droopy eye-lids.

"Great." She lied. "Let's go somewhere peaceful." I decided to ignore her tear stained cheeks and droopy eye-lids until we got to the place she wanted to go to.

"Sure, anything else you want this planet to be like?" I asked her, getting a little closer.

"Maybe some trees by some type of body of water would be nice." She said, rubbing her eye.

"Okay, Grola it is!" I said. I began to flip the levers as Laura grabbed onto the railing. "Allons-y!" I hollered, flipping the final lever. The TARDIS started materializing, and was shaking more than usual.

Laura's POV (just for a bit)

My hands slipped from the railing and I started to tumble around the TARDIS.

"Laura! Hold on!" The Doctor hollered. The TARDIS landed and I hit my knee hard. I felt skin split, and I knew that there would be blood soon. The Doctor came up to me and put his hands on his shoulders.

"You alright, love?" He asked me, inspecting my face to check for any bruises or cuts. I felt my pants at my knee getting soaked with my own blood, but luckily my jeans were dark wash so the blood blended in.

"Yeah, I'm great. Lets go out then, shall we?" I said, prying away from his grip and heading to the doors.

"Right, yes. Allons-y!" He hollered, opening the door. I ran out onto the planets surface. There were beautiful green trees about a quarter of a mile away, and they were covering a lush green hill. The grass was the same as earth grass, (green) and then there was the sky. Oh, that sky! The sky was a greenish color mixed with blue, but it wasn't all mixed together. Some places were green, and some places were dark blue. There was water on the opposite direction of the trees and the hill, and the sunlight was reflecting off of the small waves, making it look like a picture of some Hawaiian sunset. It was beautiful. The sun was just going over the water in the distance, and I knew the stars would be out soon.

"Come on, Doctor. Let's go to that hill and lay down on the bottom of it so we can stargaze!" I said, grabbing his hand and dragging him behind me.

Back to the Doctors POV:

Laura seemed to love it here. Whatever was wrong with her before has melted away. We reached the hill in about 5 minutes, and I took off my coat and laid it down for us lo lay on. We did, Laura and I side by side. Laura had abusive parents, and I found her after she had run away from home. I decided I would take her in as my own child. I loved her like she was my own, and I'd protect her no matter what. I gently pat her knee as I hear her mutter something about the stars, probably how beautiful they look. But, her knee is wet. I hear her sigh beside me. I taste what was on her knee, and then I realize it's blood. I panic.

"Laura! Your knee is bleeding!" I say, getting some bandages out of my pocket.

"Come on, we need to get back to the TARDIS so I can patch you up. We can come back, but you'll lose a lot of blood if we don't take care of that soon." I rambled. I don't hear anything from Laura, and panic swells inside me. I jostle her a little, and then I realize she's unconscious. I quickly pick her up and run back to the TARDIS. I get her to the infirmary fast with the TARDIS's help, and I set her down on the bed in there. I gently roll up her pant leg, and I see the cut. I see that it was a scab that broke wide open, and then I see other scabs on her knee. They're cut scabs, and I realized what they were from.

"Oh, Laura." I say, gently kissing her forehead. I fix her up, and wait for her to come to. Hours later, she woke up.

"Hey." She said, sitting up.

"Why am I in the TARDIS? And, why am I in the infirmary?" She questions.

"One of your cutting scars busted open when we landed, and you passed out from a lack of blood. I carried you here from our little spot on the hill. I didn't have any blood on board, so I had to give you some of my own." I replied to her. She seemed to understand fully what was going on.

"How did you know what the scabs were from?" Laura asked me, patting the bed next to her motioning for me to sit there. I got up and sat there.

"Because they're too straight to be an accident, and I can't see little individual parts of the same scab where there's a smaller scab branching off. That means that the cut wasn't one swipe, it was multiple cuts into the skin." I said to her. She nodded.

"Those aren't the only ones either." She said, Rolling up her sleeve to show me 9 other scars.

"Laura, you don't ever have to harm yourself again. I understand why you did it, and I will never  do to you what they did. You're like my own child, and I'm going to protect you as long as I can. If I have to, I'll happily die protecting you. My point is, I will make sure that they never touch you again. You're safe with me, okay? And you are loved. You're very, very loved. Now, what do you say we go back to our stargazing spot?" I said to her, and she immediately jumped into my arms for a hug.

"Thank you. . . dad." She said. Dad. I thought to myself. She called me dad! I smiled.

"You're welcome. Any day." I said, hugging her small frame back. We went back to our stargazing spot and watched the stars all night. After that day, we never had the same problem. She grew up with me in the TARDIS, and somehow my blood had turned her into a Time Lady. So, I lived out the rest of my life with my adopted daughter, and she was the one who began the Return of the Time Lords.
