Important To Me

Doctor's POV:

Rose and I had been out of the TARDIS for about a week trapped in a jail. But, we got out and left before the hostile inhabitants of that world could find out that we escaped. Rose was in a separate cell than I was, so I was unable to hold her close to me at night to protect her from anything. I did manage to squeeze between the bars a couple times to give her a hug and then when we escaped. Her cell had a window and mine didn't, so we had to get out through her cell. Being super skinny has its perks, I suppose. But we were out then, and inside the TARDIS parked in front of a rather pretty nebula. Rose went to shower and get clean, and I followed her example. After I was out, the TARDIS had taken my suit, and replaced it with a hoodie and sweatpants and a change of underwear. I groaned.

"What am I supposed to do with these?" I asked her, holding up the material and shaking it.

"Wear it." She said in my mind, with a hint of a giggle.

"Fine. Just to humor you." I said, drying off my body and putting on the clothes. I then did my hair and made sure it was up to its usual standards. Once I was pleased with it, I left my bathroom and went to the library to see if Rose was there. Se wasn't. Panic started to fill my body as I checked every room she went to for her to no avail. I checked her room, and there she was; curled up in a ball with her blanket halfway on the floor. I smiled. She's so beautiful, even when she's sleeping. I thought to myself. I walked in and made sure the blanket was covering her everywhere but her head. I kissed her forehead and left to go to my room. I hadn't slept at all while I was in the jail, my time was taken trying to figure a way out. Since I was so exhausted, I crawled under my dark blue heavy blanket and fell asleep.

-----------LATER-----------

I watched in horror as Rose's body fell limp to the ground, her blood streaming out on the pavement around her. The life form laughed as he picked up her lifeless body and hauled it away. I crumpled in my cell and began screaming out of sheer agony.

"Bring her back! Bring my Rose back to me! Bring her back!" I sobbed. I felt my body being shaken harshly.

"Doctor! Doctor wake up! Doctor!" Rose yelled. I sat bolt upright to see Rose on my bed with a terrified expression on her face. I sprung towards her and locked her in a tight hug.

"Oh god Rose. You're okay. I've got you. You're safe now don't worry." I mumbled into the crook of her neck. She pulled out of the hug, and I whimpered from the loss of contact.

"Doctor, what happened? I know you had a nightmare, and a bad one, considering I woke up from your screams, but what happened? Was it-was it the Time War again?" She asked me, holding my hands and rubbing her thumbs on them.

"No. It was worse than that. I dreamt that we were separated and you were killed, and I could do nothing to protect you. Rose, I watched you die, that's the worst thing I could see. And I'm sorry for waking you up, if you want you can go back to bed." I replied with haste. She looked at me with her chocolate eyes and smiled.

"I'll stay here with you, if you want." She said, standing up and offering me her hand to pull me up. I took it, and we were standing right next to each other.

"I'd like that." I said, getting into bed as she crawled in after me and settled right into my arms. Her back was pressed completely against my stomach, and her legs were touching mine. I had my right arm under her neck, and my left over her stomach to hold her close to me. Her hand was in my right arm in a firm hold and her other hand was up by her neck. My head was resting above hers, and I was breathing in her scent. That and the fact that I was holding her so close was intoxicating.

"Doctor?" I heard her quietly ask.

"Yes love?" I replied.

"Why was seeing me die worse than seeing all of creation die?" Her question caught me off guard, which made me stammer a little.

"I suppose it's because you're so important to me." I finally answered.

"How important?" She asked. What is she trying to get me to say? I thought in my mind.

"Very important. Most important thing in my life." After I finished saying that, she rolled over so that her arms were on my chest, and her face was right in front of mine. I pulled my arm out from underneath her and grabbed one of her hands so I could hold it. My other arm stayed over her.

"Doctor, the things in your life are very important, and now you're telling me that I'm the most important of them all? I don't believe that." She said, looking down a bit.

"Rose, believe me when I say this. You are the most important person in my life. I want you to understand that. I need you to understand that. Please do." I told her,  resting my forehead on hers.

"One more question, and I want a forward answer." I heard her say, rather sternly too.

"Okay. Ask away." I told her.

"If I am the most important person in your life, why?" Her question shocked me and left me speechless. Time to tell her I suppose. I said in my mind.

"Because I- well Rose, y'see, urm, I love you, Rose." I said, hardly able to get the words out of my mouth. To my surprise, she didn't bolt away and demand I take her home, but she smiled instead.

"Oh Doctor, I love you too." She said through her grin. I smiled as big as I could and pressed my lips to hers in a small kiss that quickly evolved into a proper snog. She pulled away when she needed air, panting. I was panting too.

"That turned out better than I expected." I said through a chuckle.

"Yeah, me too!" Rose said, laughing with her beautiful smile.

"I meant it though Rose. I love you with both my hearts and nothing can change that, no matter how hard the universe may try I will never stop loving you." I told her, earning one more little kiss.

"Thank you, Doctor. I love you very much. But, I do need to go back go sleep, and so do you. We probably have a big day of fighting monsters together tomorrow and we both need to be rested for that." She said, closing her eyes and snuggling closer to my body.

"Alright. Goodnight, my Rose." I said through a yawn.

"Goodnight, my Doctor." She replied, dozing off into a deep sleep. I fell asleep not long after her into a nightmare less slumber. As it was, she was right. We had a long day fighting monsters together, and then fell asleep in my bed again. After months of this happening every night, the TARDIS merged our bedrooms. Each night Rose would go to sleep in my arms and I would either join her, or protect her from whatever lurk in the shadows.
