Doctor's POV:

Rose Tyler, the beautiful little thing she so often was, had used her knowledge and understanding of me again to get what she wanted. This time, it wasn't something exotic, just a trip to go see her mum. I wasn't really going to deny her the right to see her mother, but I was absolutely going to deny her my presence there. She wanted me to go, ad I wanted to go with her because I like going places with her, but every single time I wound up in Jackie's flat, I had been slapped like a vending machine that cheated someone out of their crisps. Which is to say, hard. And plus, Jackie terrified me. I was putting in the coordinates for Jackie's flat, when Rose asked me to go with her.

"No. Absolutely not." I Said, trying not to look her in the face, knowing that if I did I would see hurt and confusion there. 

"Oh c'mon, Doctor, why not?" Her tone. Oh, her tone. I decided in that moment that her voice would be the death of me.

"Because! She is your mother and she slaps me every single time I go over there! And she's just...scary." I kept trying to go to the other side of the console to escape her gaze, but she followed me and eventually pinned me against the console. All logical thinking of my brain died when she pressed me against my ship, her hand fisted in my shirt.

"Listen, you daft man. You have faced the most terrifying things in the universe. Daleks, Cybermen, your own demons. But my mother scares you? Of all those things? And I'll clue you in on somethin'. The reason she's so wary of you is because she hardly ever sees you. She doesn't know you, and that makes her nervous. Her only daughter is runnin' around the universe with a man she doesn't know. You'd be worried too. So, come over, and I promise the slaps will start to go away." She looked me dead in the eye, and I knew that the safest option for me would be to agree. So I did.

"Ok, then. I'll just finish setting the coordinates then?" She smiled at me, and leaned in and gave me a light peck on the cheek. My mind sputtered for a moment, but then I yanked myself back to rational thoughts and finished setting the coordinates.

"Hang on!" I yelled to Rose as I pulled the lever. She locked her fingers in an iron grip on a part of the railing, and then everything started shaking. I held on tightly, my knuckles turning white. We landed with a rather nasty jolt, and Rose went flying backwards onto the TARDIS console. I rushed over to her to see her grimacing in pain. I grabbed her shoulders.

"Are you alright? Are you hurt? Did you hit your head?" My eyes searched her frantically, trying to see any bodily harm. She shook her head.

"No, no, I'm alright. Just hit my back a bit, that's all." She made to stand, and I helped her up. She winced and leaned forward onto me, and I held her for a moment.

"Rose. Let me see." She shook my hands off of her.

"No, Doctor, I told you. I'm alright." She took two steps, and her hand flew to her back. I walked forward and placed a hand on hers, and slowly moved her hand away.

"Rose, let me see. I need to check to see if you are hurt. Please, just let me do this for you?" I waited patiently before she nodded slightly. I let loose a breath of relief. I motioned for her to go stand in front of the TARDIS console, and she did. I lifted up her shirt high enough to see a massive purple bruise already forming on her back. I got very angry with myself. How could I have let this happen to her? I shook myself out of my daze and grabbed my sonic. I turned it on, and checked her for any bone or spinal damage. A great weight was lifted off of my shoulders once I got the results back. There was only bruising, and nothing else.
